Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew up to Lacrete on the weekend to visit the inlaws. Great flight that turns a 5 hr drive into a 2 hr flight. Lots of fire fighting planes up in the sky with us.
Parked beside this great AT-502B.

Went wake boarding down at the lake and this was parked here. Drooled over it a bit then took a picture.

The flight home on Sunday was great as well, but it was hot. About 30 degrees. Finally started cooling down above 4500 feet.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Man this type of flying is so fun. Tookoff from Nampa about 7:15am, then off to Smith Prairie. Strip was in great condition, very smooth. Saw some deer tracks on the runway but spotted no animals in the area. Nice campground for one group.

Now here is a handsome plane...

Then off to Idaho City, first landing here. The trees are definitely on the tall side here, taller than your standard FAA tree I reckon.

Then off to Garden Valley. No pics there but did do my first approach to the west after seeing it demonstrated and watching the videos on youtube about 100 times. According to my passenger that was the highlight of the trip. Then back to Nampa to put the plane back to bed. Great morning.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I had a crane job I could not get out (involving truckers, an excavator, and a couple other contractors who didn't want to hear "let's do it Monday".) that made me miss JC this year, but I did get a chance to fly over to Big Piney Wy and get a free breakfast and see a few classic cars at a fly in there. Unlike the rest of you, I don't have unlimited funds and leisure time (though I can fake it pretty good for extended periods) and sometimes ! just have to WORK. I had always wanted to land some of the ridges on the way there from my place, but was always in a hurry going somewhere else. This trip there was no somewhere else, as long as I got home in time for the afternoon crane job, so.....: this spot was at 9500', and note higher ridge in the background, more on that later.Image I noticed the pattern altitude at Big Piney is 8,000', that tells you it's in Wyoming. A super nice Piet with an 0-200, flown by 79 year old Tom out of Lander, a great guy and inspiring as I can almost relate to being 79 nowadays!Image So now, heading back after the obligatory BS'ing on the flight line and of course the free breakfast, I inadvertantly ended up passing over the higher ridge in the back of the first one I had landed earlier. One good thing about this heat wave is no wind, or very little anyway, so I ended up circling over it and next I knew:ImageThe parking spot and start of the takeoff run, here's the view from the touchdown spot, some big rocks but unlike other times they wern't camo'd and were easy to avoidImage: This may be a world record for an off airport landing altitude WITH a folding mountain bike on board  10,600' and 72 degrees and getting warmer by the minute. I figure the dens alt was 13,500' or so, and cheated on the takeoff using the slope I had landed on, and it was non eventful. Now I was running out of time, but as I headed home I flew over the even higher ridge in the back ground of this shot, and it has been eating at me, it is in the mental GPS for a future looksee.Image Dodging a little virga right in my backyard, I set it down and was on the way to my crane job by 10:30 AM, and this job's money went directly toward my new carbon fiber extended wing tip mod so at least I got something to show for missing JC this year.

Re: Where did you fly today?

You're a pretty inspiring guy mister. Almost makes me want to rush out and buy a crane. I sure hope I can do some of that stuff when I get the 701 built. It doesn't have near as much wing as yours does but I'm hoping. Extending the wing tips 16" and filling in the V missing out of the middle of the wing may help. Anyway, you're always doing something outrageously fun so I hope to join you one day. I used to operate a 50' Pitman to set about a million street and traffic lights. I always thought it was the high point of any particular day when I dropped the pole onto the base vertical and without banging the anchor bolts.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Some of these longer posts should be their own thread in trip reports. It's better from an archival standpoint. Kinda hard to find specific posts buried in a 200 page thread. :)

I agree! I asked him about it and he seemed happy to just keep posting how he does.

The deal is..... once I get somewhat comfortable doing a certain thing on the computer, I am reluctant to change as I may find I somehow changed my e mail address, or deleted all my crane work records, or post my on line banking password. Point being I am a caveman when it comes to this stuff. I'll re-read your last post to me on the subject, maybe I'll print it out in large letters and have someone read it to me repeatatly in a loud voice, that may work. :x

A good example, I took my computer in because it was running slow, turns out it was just a change up at my servers, no problem right? Well, the next time I clicked on my crane work file it turns out they are all shrunk, I can enlarge them to a readable size font but can't seem to get it to stay that way. Plus, when I hit the return arrow on the BCP site, I have to position the mouse curser (aptly named) precisely in a very small spot or it won't work, all other functions anywhere on the arrow works. Weird shit like that gives me pause before I do ANYTHING. Now my last gal pal was a whiz in all this, an english professor at the local U, she even set me up a web site for my solar biz. A year later after she finally figured out I didn't want to get hitched, and not only that I was ready to "move on", she trashed my site on the way out. Weird shit, like I said. I just got back from a first time visit to a 8600' this morning and I'll post it for now as a trip report, and hope for the best [-o<

Re: Where did you fly today?

Well over the past few days I've flown from Oakdale (O27) to Lovelock NV (LOL) Nampa ID (KMAN) Emmet ID (S78) Johnson Creek (3U2) Cascade ID (U70) Bend OR (KBDN) and Redding CA (O85).

These are probably the only pictures you're interested in...

No pictures of Mount Shasta, Castle Rock or Shasta Lake on the way to Redding? I was hoping for a couple.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Well it is quite hot here today. Heat wave rolling through. 34*C. So after I was done spraying, I took the dpor off the plane, opened the window and went for a cruise. Found a couple nice sand bars, landed one, saw some river boats, and did a couple stop and goes on the strip I'm building.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Nothing special today, but took the wife and kids (ages 3 & 6) to Garden Valley today to practice landing to the west again. After that, back to Nampa for breakfast, where some pretty good food is served. Kids love sitting outside while eating breakfast and watching the planes come and go. Saw a cool 172 tailwheel conversion fueling up while eating.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I really miss having breakfast at The Nampa Airport Cafe. The view is great from most of the tables.

Received (most of) my TW endorsement there. Wx must be great this time of year!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Is it me or does the main gear on that 172 conversion not sit as high as a 170?
