Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

In one word: yes!

Successfully checked out of the Baron, in cockpit procedural trainers for C-12 start and run-up now. We should move back to the flightline later this week!

Vis went to 1.25 miles in haze/blowing snow after I taxied out and didn't feel like swimming in it, despite the sunshine - nor getting a special out of BRD... so turned around and went back... :?

Re: Where did you fly today?

I meant to upload these photos earlier but I made a great trip into Sulpher Creek w/ friends for breakfast in mid-September. Simply can not say enough good things about the folks and my limited experience there. Can not wait to go back next year....

Re: Where did you fly today?

Another late entry from mid-September but just getting around to getting caught up. After much delay and studying the details of the airstrip I finally flew into Fish Lake this fall. The strip was in very good condition or at least the lower two thirds of it was. The upper portion was pretty rough. When I landed I had several elk hunters approach me that had shot a small bull a few days earlier and thought I was there ride out. Ha, Ha, they had been in there for about a week and I could tell they were ready to get the heck out. I politely informed them I was not :D
You can also tell by the photos there was still a bit of smoke from the fires. I will be back next year for camping and more fun!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Finally got the Skalywag back in the air today. Hard to breath a sigh of relief with the cluster of engine BS thats been goin down in the second half of 2013. Hope to leave all that in the past and move on to 2014 ;) The new cylinder and new muffler are on, left brake rebuilt, all systems checked green. Gonna run it a bunch this week in the flat country and try to regain confidence in this motor.

Re: Where did you fly today?

BACKWARDS! And no rear window in the Cessna 170. Weather has been terrible for last couple weeks. Was starting to get the shakes pretty bad as I had not flown for 2 weeks. TAF calling for 25 with gusts to 36 but I look outside and it is calm. Winds at 9000 predicted at 50 -60. Might as well move some oil around the engine and survey the hood. Take off and about 300 feet off the ground it is like taking a ride in a washing machine, barely able to keep up. Then at about 1000 off the ground it gets fairly smooth-relatively speaking. A look at the ground and it appears I am making little headway. GPS says 25mph ground speed. Appears I am going nowhere so why not have some fun. Throw the flaps out and slow to 65 indicated. Spend a good bit of time enjoying the hover with occasional periods of backward movement interspersed with stalls caused by the gusts. Make the turn to return to the airport and 175 ground speed to my usual 105 cruise. Went nowhere but a memorable flight.

Good to see some action in this thread again!

We had some fantastic flying weather here around Ashland yesterday, so I took the opportunity to check on our local volcanos.

That bums me out Oregon180. Freezing fog to the ground all day yesterday just 20nm away in Grants Pass. Glad you were able to get out.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Sean, I came over the top of GP yesterday morning and I could see a trough in the top of that fog that looked just like the river snaking through the town and out towards the airport. Never seen the river "outlined" in the fog like that before.

I had hoped to go impede the work at Brian and Steve's but anything in the valley north of Ashland was foggy.

These Rex blocks create beautiful flying conditions if you're in the right place, but definitely don't help clear out fog if you have it.

Here's the view in the other direction, looking over the Medford area. Ashland was clear, but Medford swept in a foggy blanket.

Tragically, ATXCitab (Hank Sasser) perished in a crash in August 2014. He was a great guy and will be missed. -Z

Re: Where did you fly today?

No cool pictures, just a CAVU midday flight into Fairbanks on nearly the shortest day of the year. I know some of you can relate.

Re: Where did you fly today?

No photos either, but we flew to Kemmerer, WY. Great fbo building. Very little wind, so I may not have actually been in Wyoming. On our way back to Spanish Fork we got into some weather, snow, rain, lowering ceilings, etc. at night. Good times.
