I got to take my wife's little brother and sister up for a scenic tour in the Willamette Valley. My sister-in-law is responsible for the pictures and video and my brother-in-law created the music! I just made a measly attempt at editing it all into a video. Hope you all enjoy! And Merry Christmas!

Nice! I enjoy flying the Valley :) if only the weather could have been like that today...

Log. Only living thing(s) on the river that morning were four ducks!

Re: Where did you fly today?

I went flying on Christmas day with Noreen and Chuck, looking for reindeer tracks. Found lots of mule deer and elk, even a moose, but no reindeer this far down South.

It's a little long, and maybe a bit boring, but still some pretty footage, imho.

Good one! I've never seen Regis and Kathly Lee do a "Head Bonk". LOL Did the puppy's stomach calm down after landing?

It's too hard to kiss with the headsets on, the microphones get in the way, so we've substituted "head bonks" instead.

Chuck was fine, never threw up. We think he ate some of the silly string before we could get it all cleaned up and that's what was bothering him.

That's what I figured. At least the bonks aren't like what the Klingons do on Star Trek. "Honey, we're going to try it the Klingon way this time... WHAM! Kahplah!" There would be an iffy landing after one or two of those! (I don't watch it all the time. I just have a good memory. LOL)

That would do it. Dogs and cats are very sensitive to any little thing that isn't supposed to be in their diet.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Today I was 10 seconds from starting the plane for a breakfast run to Afton, a 45 minute flight for me, (remember that) the plane was all warmed up, the skis were down and ready to go. Just as I was putting the cell phone in the ditty bag it rang, 10 seconds later I wouldn't have heard it. It was an unexpected hurry up crane job, unloading a semi at the county landfill where they are doing a methane recovery energy production project (read government funding). I told the contractor that he caught me just in time, and I could put the plane away and be there in the crane in 45 minutes.

Upon my arrival, I immediately became aware there was a giant CF going on, everyone was on their cell phones and no one knew what to do with me, the guy who called me wasn't there. I set the crane up and then sat in the cab for.....45 minutes. Then the phone rang and I was told that due to a miss communication among the various contractors I was to pack it up, leave a bill in the shed, and go home! 45 minutes later I was back in the still warmed up plane, and I flew over the job site getting a picture of the trucker pulling out. To say he was a little pissed when I left would be correct  Unlike his arrival where the load was tarped, he didn't bother covering it as he was leaving. Another 45 minutes later, after taking the picture and making a few snow hillside touch and goes on the way home I landed and emailed the picture to the guy who called me to start with. I billed them for my minimum showup and travel time, 2.5 hrs of crane time. This is your/our tax dollars at work. In 45 minutes I am going to have a beer 8) Image

Thanks, It was a really fun flight. A basket full of kittens is too cute, but Allen is fuzzy enough for all of us. Wait, did I say Allen? I meant Chuck!

Built a new runway near some of our cattle pens to make life easier (1-2 minute flight or 30 minute drive). Landed it today first time, Waylon was so pumped he had to sing ;)

Tragically, ATXCitab (Hank Sasser) perished in a crash in August 2014. He was a great guy and will be missed. -Z

Re: Where did you fly today?

Had a great flight this morning. Sorry, didn't get any video. Took a couple of pictures though.

Flew down to Renshaw Ranch to meet up with Emmet. First picture was taken from low earth orbit. If you look just above the S shaped line of trees there is a faint diagonal line running from lower right to upper left just between my wing struts. That's the runway.

Image

Here is a picture of Renshaw Regional from the ground.

Image

Emmet's plane on the left, mine on the right. Various friends of Emmet's in the front.

Aaron's new bird.

Image

Sorry, didn't get a picture of Steve's Super Cub! :(

The runway was okay but the surrounding grass REALLY made me want bigger tires! Lots of potholes made by cow hooves. Lots of cow pies too. The folks on the ground were super friendly and really happy we stopped in. Their kids had a ball looking at our airplanes. We thanked them for letting us land on their ranchland and they told us to come back any time. Real nice folks.

Emmet was too busy giving rides to go on the south circuit and the clock was running out for both Aaron and I so we headed out. We scoped out some good landing spots at the south end of San Luis Res. Aaron reported the ground smooth as glass. I will probably go back when I have time to stop and hop out and take a few photos.

All an all a very fun morning!

New Year's Day flight to Monterey Bay Academy. I've been wanting to go here for years and never had the opportunity.

I've heard conflicting reports over the years. Talked to some folks on the field. Everyone is welcome. They'd like donations but they aren't required. They would prefer that the field not be used on Saturdays (their sabbath) but they won't get bent out of shape if you do land there on Saturdays.

The sod strip is in really good shape. Just watch for migrants and tractors. I landed beyond the concrete ramp crossing the runway. Gets a little bouncy if you land prior.

And here's a little present for our landlocked friends...
