Just got out of my Internet/cell free weekend of flying. flew up through reno with gas stop at Spanish springs then on to Caldwell for a brief visit at Maule mods ( making me want to re-mortgage to make the maule like new) 2 beautiful days at the Big creek lodge with some flightseeing down the local valleys over to Thomas creek to do some hiking to the local hot springs for a soak and a 5 sec swim in the middle salmon river (cold) . Stopped at Joseph to pick up my new TW spring fom Wup at AK Bushwheels. The flight over to Battleground WA was nice and now parked over at Goheen airstrip which is a sweet little grass strip here a few minutes from My sisters house.

I guess that was more than where I flew today but a 5 day recap.

Left Weed, CA Friday morning for a trip to Provo, UT to see my 85 yr old mom. Made a fuel stop in Delle, Ut. This is not on the sectional but is on the chart the state of Utah publishes. It can also be found on Utah Back Country web site. This place is on I-80 about 60 nm east of Wendover, UT.

You land on asphalt grindings and taxi up the the gas pumps of a convenience store. This is for those that can run a mogas. The polish dogs are good. No wind sock so I do a fly by at slow speed in each direction to judge groundspeed then choose runway.

On way home I flew over Blackrock Desert and noticed a lot of campers and trailer at what appeared to be a well organized event. Over the objections of my wife I landed to investigate. What I found was really neat. We arrived in time to see the last two launches of some really neat hardware. Check out this site http://www.balls15.com/ talked to a guy who sent his up 88,000 ft above sea level.

After checking things out on the net I found that there is another bunch doing the same thing the weekend before. http://www.aeropac.org/

I think that aeropac might be a little better cus it looks like balls 15 wants to charge $60 just to watch and aeropac just wants $5

I think we should pick a weekend in 2007 when they get their calendar set and have a BCP fly in to Blackrock to watch big kids with big toys.

Doubtful. This was a business trip this time, unfortunately there was little time or money for pleasure. Maybe next time around.

Dave, there's a sweet little private airstrip just 3 or 4 miles west of Goheen called Daybreak. It's on the sectional. The owners are pretty cool about people flying in, as long as they behave themselves. It's right near town, but has a real back country feel to it-- 2200 feet of grass, campground, fire ring, outhouse, even a swimming hole complete with rope swing. Check it out. Just keep it cool for the next guy....don't piss off the owner or the neighbors with low passes etc.

Cessna 206 - All three kids and I headed to Graham to go trout fishing (no fish). I had a friend with a 180h.p. C-172 tagging along for his first trip in there as well. Then we did the usual stop at Fairfield on the way home to get some chocolate shakes at the Wrangler. Splendid day with a little snow on the Mtns. above 9k or so. Overall fantabulous, I'm afraid it will be over in another four weeks or so.

Went out towards SEZ to look for the missing 182. left too late and it got dark on us. the last few nights have had giant moons. Very cool coming in to all the lights.
G3, Four weeks from now flying here will be PRIME. Give me a buzz if you make it down.

Zero1V, thanks for the heads up on Daybreak will look for it next time I'm up that way. It would be farther frome her house than Goheen but sounds cool.

Made it back to SoCal on Wed. had to work around some ugly clouds in the Shasta area before a smooth final entry to Whp. The whole trip was great.

Fall flyin' is tough to beat! Yesterday I took a 206 load into Cabin Cr, hopped over to Taylor Ranch to pick up another full load then back to McCall. The colors are great this time of year. After another trip to Chamberlain to pick up a solo 20 year-old hunter (no game, but I was impressed he was out there by himself), I dusted the ol' Luscombe off and took her around the patch to make sure I could still keep her on the runway...

After I was comfortable, my wife joined me, and Rob (seaplanepilot) took his Stinson out, and we chased each other around the country side. We had a great time, stopped in at Donnely to trade cameras, then back to McCall. I think the best part of the whole day was in the evening, my wife, always a willing passenger but never much interested in flying, told me that when we've got a little more money, she wants to learn to fly too!

Monday morning Super Cub run to check on customers digging sugar beets. Couple, three field landings next to them digging, soft dirt, bushwheels, no problem!

Sunday before last I took my fifteen year old daughter (at her request) to fill the plane about 10 minutes away in Wasilla. From there we seemed to point a little North (How'd that happen?) and found ourselves over the Petersville/Cache Creek area and the Dutch Hills looking at all of the old Mines and admiring all of the colors of Fall. Our little side trip to top tanks turned into 2.6 hours of site seeing and poking around old cabins close to a couple of little strips. I'll re-read Zanes directions and get some of these picture things posted.

Another sweet day for flying, fall is passing quickly though. So nice I finally got the notion to pull the J3 out and thrash around in it. I hadn't flown it since March or April and none of us had flown it since July. It had a coat of dust on the windshield and partially flat tires when I popped the hangar door. A little TLC and I was off to scout in formation with the owner of the Super Cub. We hammered around the Bennett hills for around two hours, made a landing at the Tracy strip to wee and came home. He was diggin' it because he hadn't flown formation before so it was cool to be a part of that.
Dudes, keep flying, it's going to be cold and wintry soooon!

Super Cub - More elk scouting (by myself this morning), a brief stop at a friends strip west of Fairfield, quick beach landing in the usual spot on the way home. Thinking of pulling out the J3 again today.
Jr., that was a very descriptive story, it sounded super, I love days like that.

Finally had a friend of mine show up from Rigby in his fine little 180 (been waiting for the lazy-ass for a year) and I took him on a little shreddy ride through the forest. We left GNG for Fairfield (10-4, burger, shake - Wrangler, on the way OUT though!) then Bumgartner, Atlanta, Graham, Weatherby (downwind, no sweat) and back home. High quantity of fun packed into a short period of time. Had to get back to pull the exhaust off of the Super Cub to get it welded. Just got back from that project but it's ready to scout first thing in the morning!

My dad was born and raised in Rigby. Grandparents lived at 176 Dove Street untill they died a few years ago.
