Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

August lakes patrol. Hit Pelican, Edna, Spider (for old times sake), Upper Gull, Sylvan and home.

Re: Where did you fly today?

It's been a great 8 days of intense training with Greg in New England. Now it's time to head out North for an overnight shakedown cruise.
And then off to the West.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Got out for a leaf patrol the other evening. It’s pretty much peak right now, but the colors seem a bit more subdued than last year. Still nice though.

Went to get the airplane after its annual today. Colors are now peaking around the Brainerd Lakes Area (a couple weeks late I think).

To all pilots: don't do something stupid and have to retire. I miss those glorious mornings, sorry Rob, different start to day.

In the Nevada desert you don't find fall foliage like you do up North, but if you look around, it's there! Especially cottonwoods along rivers.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Nice fall day in Arkansas yesterday. This is Trigger Gap. The RAF has done an amazing job of opening and supporting airstrips in Arkansas. Richland Creek (4AR9) is my favorite but this one is awesome too.

And this is Byrd's Adventure Center... another great spot.

I'm behind on my annual flying hour budget. I had a big trip to the Bahamas planned in February that I had to scrub, and I hoped to get the 180 to New England in October. But I couldn't make the job/family/adventure balance work out so that adventure will have to wait. Consolation prize was a beautiful day in Arkansas for a long flight with stops at a couple of cool strips.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Sunday was fathers day here in Norway. I was served coffe, a piece of cake and got a pair of nice wool hiking socks from my family (When I was young I hated soft presents. Now, as long as it is made from wool, I can never have enough!). Then I got the rest of the day "off", and naturally I went flying. My plan was to just fly around in the vicinity of the airstrip, but when I got there, some friends were also getting ready to go out flying. So we decided to go land at an island out on the coast. The Island was kind of a coastal airbase for the Germans during the war, but today there is only about 2000 feet of narrow gravel runway left. Sorry I did not take any pictures f the bunkers or some of the stuff still left there. We just hang out on the strip for a little while before we went back. It gets dark quickly this time of the year.

Flew over our house, and wing-wagged back to the kids waving up, also.

Low sun means beautiful lightning. It makes everything looks a little bit more dramatic.

Flying near big bodies of water makes it so much easier to see what the winds are doing.

Two Savage Cubs. Later we were joined by a Kitfox IV. It is a speed machine compared to the Savage.

Wow, very cool trip. Keep on posting more since you are in a very interesting part of the world. Some of my relatives came over about 150 yrs ago from the Stavanger area.

Thanks, man! I will try and remember to post. I am lucky to fly in this region. Here I am on my way to the airfield, at the bottom of the valley a little bit further down. It is much wider than it looks. I regurarly practice eights across it.

That river in the loose canyon would give you good energy management turn practice. Also the wind management part would be obvious with a cross canyon rather than up or down canyon wind. Like you say not too tight but level turns would sure indicate the danger of downwind turns where horizontal space is limited.

That's pretty country, looks a lot like BC Canada.

I dont think the farmers would enjoy the show, so I have to stay at 1000 feet AGL. But that might still be close enough to get an impression of how well I am doing.
