Window tint

I’m replacing the windows in the 182 and looking for opinions on green or gray tint, or clear. I can’t honestly say I’ve ever really noticed tinting or lack of tinting in any of the aircraft I’ve flown. I’m leaning toward clear for the windshield at least.
Any opinions?

Re: Window tint

I really like the solar grey tint. It really doesn't have much tint to it, not enough that I've noticed at night or anything, but it does help block UV rays if you are ever parked outside. I've installed a number of them and never had a complaint yet.

Re: Window tint

I like the look of the green tint, especially the bubble windshield on a Cessna , but I’ve noticed that the windows haze pretty quick when the aircraft sits outside (non hangared). Those rear windows like on a 182 take a beating in the sun.

Re: Window tint

I went with new glass in 2016 and decided on the gray tint. It is really subtle but does cut down on some of the sunlight in the cabin. My old glass had the green tint. I feel the gray was an improvement.

Re: Window tint

I went with the solar grey on my project. It just looks more natural to me then the green tint.

Re: Window tint

Thanks, that’s helpful. Any issues with flying at night? I am ordering on Monday, leaning toward grey.

Re: Window tint

I fly at night a fair amount and have not noticed any issues with the grey tint. It really is subtle.

Re: Window tint

I'll add another vote for grey. My side windows will need to be replaced soon and I will be using grey.

Re: Window tint

I've been very happy with LP aero products. They have a good selection, all the paperwork, and good quality.

Ill 2nd LP... Just got a new one in for a Cessna 172... Very nice, clear glass and packaged well..

Last time I did Cee Bailie's it was cracked in shipment, NO box damage.. Got a replacement and it was warped on one edge and had a bad area that looked wavy.. Glass seemed thinner also.. Really disappointed in their quality..

Installed Great Lakes Aero "Solar Control" windshield in gray a couple of years ago. I've been happy with it so far. Nice quality.
Cheers!

Re: Window tint

FlyingZ, I’m interested in which company you choose for your windshield/glass. I have installed 2 LP Aero windshields for a customer and she is still not happy. The problem is distortion (considerable) at about the 45 degree point on the windshield. It almost makes one feel that they have beer goggles on when they look through this point. Otherwise Very clear on either side. I talked to LP and was told that all windshields have distortion there-no they don’t. Please peel back the protective film on the inside and outside before installation if you’re using LP and see if you are ok with what you see

Re: Window tint

I did go with LP Aero simply because it wasn’t Bailey and it’s what Spruce sells. I hope that’s not a mistake and will do as you suggested before installing. My aging eyesight is shitty enough without additional distortions. Thanks for the tip.

I’m a little late to the party here but I’ve been using GLAP in solar gray for years, never any issues.
