Work'n the numbers

Does anyone in the BCP community have a handy dandy excel W & B program. It's time to see where the 170 is sitting after the engine change and other "refinements" in the C or G envelop, the empty weight is 1340 lbs.

Re: Work'n the numbers

I just do my W&B on paper, it's pretty simple. While you had it on scales did you weigh it in different configurations? Ex:with rear seat in, with seat out, with pilot seat only, etc? I think it's well worth the time to do that, that way config changes are a simple log entry referring to certain ammendments. I think I have 7 different ones for my 206.

Re: Work'n the numbers

I’m usually configured with only 3 seats and will do up a two seat W&B as well. Plus I have three different landing gear configurations to go between, wheels, wheel-skis and floats.

Re: Work'n the numbers

1340 is a really nice weight for a 180 hp 170B. I think mine was ~1356 empty on 8.50 tires.

Congratulations!

It's not that a W & B "on paper" is terribly challenging, even for ME. However when the document is part of a package that's being submitted to a regulatory agency the optics of a "formulated" process could be helpful.

I could send you my word document one that I send in to TC all the time. Basically just a fill in the blank with the numbers.

Re: Work'n the numbers

Hey Zzz, how about a "tools of the trade" section. A1 Skinner just sent me a really simple (for me it needs to be) W & B worksheet, what ya think

Re: Work'n the numbers

I'll leave it to A1 to pass along he's the original author or I'd be happy to with his permission. I did find a PDF W & B report I'll send you but the data fields are "locked" and will require manual input.

Nothing's simpler than changing a number in a spreadsheet and seeing values change. W&B on paper is easy but having an electronic version to play around with adjusting loading is even easier and it's quick.

Bryce, I suggest you learn Excel or Google Sheets. 8)

I'll send you a copy Jay. Stand by at your email.

Maybe I'll sit down one of these nights and design one on Excel. Just haven't had much time, working on my CPL every evening so I can take the turbine Ag seat I've been offered for next summer.

8GCBC's W&B should do the trick then, it is impressive.
"Blind them with brilliance or baffle them with bullshit" comes to mind.
This one does both to me (no offense to 8GCBC).
