Would a US company insure a foreign aircraft?
A general forum for anything related to flying the backcountry. Please check first if your new topic fits better into a more specific forum before posting.
I know there are some plans which cover across country lines and I think that would be the best place to start. I'm wondering if any of the Canadian contributors to this forum have ever been able to get quotes from US companies or vise versa? Airplanes, especially the big guys, are traveling across borders all the time. Does this mean you HAVE TO use a company from country of your registration?

You have to use a Canadian insurer. They have to have assets in Canada to back their guarantee of coverage especially for the liability portion. Its not about insuring your hull, it’s about the government keeping their promise to the population that you’ll be able to pay for any harm you do after they certified you and your airplane were safe to fly.
You didn’t ask this, but minimum insurance requirements in Canada are way too low. TC only requires $100,000 liability on aircraft under 2300# gross. Not a typo. Didn’t miss a zero. One hundred thousand.

Its that low? That surprises me. But I guess I've never asked for less. My 206 has a 3 mill low limit.

I have no experience with US / Canada - but lots of people around the world are insured by companies in the UK, which incidentally has a close relationship with Canada
I can't see why not. It would just be a question of finding the right company I suppose.
Alternatively, try the UK.

Here’s where I found it. You could look it up in the CARs, but this is a copy that I found easily.
