WTB 180K third row seat.

What are my options for the third row seat for a 78 180K? Anyone have one for sale or are there any aftermarket options?

Thanks,
Wes.

This has been discussed to some extent on this site. I believe your only option is to track down a Cessna third row seat, it's a tiny little thing only really adequate for children. Not sure if the 180K had it as an option, a quick check of the Illustrated Parts Manual will tell.

There's no aftermarket option I'm aware of.

My s/n on the TCDS shows it came with six seats, will this confirm that it came with or capable of having a third row seat?

A third row will fit, and your bird likely has the nutplates installed already to accept it. It may or may not have been delivered with a 3rd row. There are a few variants of the third row seat. You can make any one of them fit, but getting the one for your serial number would be the most "bolt-in" option".

You may want to look at your insurance policy. I have a good friend here who saved a bunch on insuring his late model because it was delivered from Cessna with a 4 seat interior. Not sure how he caught it, but they were insuring for 6 seats. He rarely flies with anyone else let alone 5 other people. He showed the original equipment list from Cessna with a 4 seat interior and saved a bunch of coin.

Whether or not it is a good idea to pack 6 people in an already heavy 180 is up for debate. I've spent a fair amount of time in that 3rd row as a wee lad. It's not bad when you're 6. My old man flew the same airplane with 6 adults in it and I'm pretty sure the only reason those guys got in was that it was their job. I'm also pretty confident that there is NO way that it pencils out on paper as far as CG goes.

I see 3rd rows pop up on FB from time to time. Keep scrounging and you'll find one.

Another issue to consider with that third row child’s seat: Egress in an emergency. Getting out of the standard back seat in one of those planes in an emergency is bad enough.

Hey Tony, is the original equipment list for a Cessna serial number available online somewhere or is this something that would be in the log books?

MTV, even graceful egress from any seat in an airplane is a challenge for my old self some days #-o

In airplanes that came with the AFM as part of the Pilot Operating Handbook, (After mid seventies) the equipment list was in the back of the original POH, with installed items in that aircraft marked on that list.

I’m not sure when Cessna started that practice.

Should be in your logs, if not, I bet you can get it from Cessna.
