WTB: Cessna 182

Looking for a clean IFR, damage free, corrosion free Cessna 182. Prefer 182b through 182m (1958-1969). If anyone here is thinking of selling or knows someone who plans to sell please let me know.

Thx

Interesting model range. The only difference between an A and a B is that he B has cowl flaps. Oh and the stock panel on the B has a better panel layout. Going to be really hard to find an old 182 that is corrosion free. My 56 model has a little bit but it is tolerable.

Isn't the gear stance a little lower on the B too? I always get a kick out of people always looking for an "IFR" bird, what does that really mean? I wouldn't fly single pilot IFR in true IMC without a IFR approved gps with a coupled 3-axis auto pilot and ads b transponder.- that setup would add 50% to the price of an old 182.....two old vor's and an adf is a joke

The first 182 was the 56 model (mine) was the Highest one built. In 57 with the 182A they lowered it a bit. Then with the 1961 model 182D (still a narrow body) they lowered it a bit more. After that they made them for fatter folks.

My 56 model has a Garmin 430W. No auto pilot and I am very comfortable going up through a layer it do IFR on top or dropping through one. That is not considered what some folks call had IFR

Cessna Pilots Association has a great book on the evolving of the 182. If this is going to be your first 182 you are required to get this book and read it. Many questions answered

Agreed on the CPA 182 book - you'll read it through at least once, and reference it a lot more as you decide what you want. On the plus side they're all still 182's, it's just the features or design changes you think you want.

Corrosion free birds do exist; my 57 is basically pristine, save a little patch of extremely minor surface dust above my headliner. It spent its whole life in Montana and Idaho though, and now it's in Colorado which is even better. Be patient, they do exist. You can't get in a rush if there are certain aspects you want to find. You also have to prioritize your desires, be disciplined (walk away from the wrong one), and be ready to rock when you find it because a clean old airplane is going to sell fast no matter what it is.

Good luck!

I want to get my ifr rating in my own plane and in order to do so I assume that it needs to be ifr equipped and have a cert.

As I recall you have to have enough equipment to do three different approaches. Does not have to be certified to do training or checkride because you do not have to file an IFR plan for any of this. In the checkride you can do two of the approaches on a simulator then one in your plane. Been a while since my checkride but I will be corrected if I am giving out bum dope

Re: WTB: Cessna 182

An "IFR" cert in Canada means the two year transponder and altimetry check has been completed. Thats all. Doesn't mean the plane is capable of flying an approach. Keep that in mind when you are looking at planes advertised from afar. A sellers idea of IFR equipped is usually not the same as a pilots. A pilot who just wants a pop up ifr clearance doesn't need nearly the same equipment as a pilot who wants to land at minimums. You will save in the long run if you figure out your plan. Might be well worth spending the extra 20K for the plane equipped for hard IFR over the one that is IFR certified, but needs a ton of upgrading to be actually imc flyable. Might be worth talking to the instructor that will be training you and get their opinion on what you should look for.

Lots of nice vintage 182's around and good deals to be had. Just not many equipped for true IFR. Would be a shame to overlook a cherry just because the ad doesn't say IFR equipt.
