Al Gore says ethanol was a mistake?

Nothing happens without it. Discuss fuel locations, quality, alternatives, and anything else related to this critical resource.

Wow! I'm impressed, but not favorably impressed.

Which part did you think was a "Good read."? Was it when the esteemed VP and co-publisher of The Auto Channel advocated executing someone for exercising freedom of speech? Was it the racist rants? Or was it the hilarious notion that we could use ethanol "instead of gasoline as our primary engine fuel" [emphasis added]. That implies E51 or greater, and I laugh to think what would happen to the morning commute after everyone filled up their cars on that! :D

That was actually written by Mad Magazine writers way back in 1991 as a joke about something Dan Quayle might say. Gore never said it.

But thanks for playing.

BTW, I have no bone in this save trying to avoid damaging my engines.

How many years do I have to use E30 to E50 in bone stock vehicles before you realize that the engine isn't going to get damaged?
Evidently 9.6 years of E50 in a 1992, 8 years of E30 in a 1995, and 1 year of E30 in a 2000 model year isn't enough to convince you.

I had a beautiful 1966 Mercury Comet, whose carb got slightly plugged with a black slime that was once fuel hose due to the remarkable dissolving effects of ethanol. An overly lean condition resulted in a very damaged engine. I discovered that many other people had similar issues, sometimes from hoses and gaskets dissolving, sometimes from the resins in certain fiberglass fuel tanks.

When I lived in Seattle, the ethanol corroded my aluminum weed eater engine, completely destroying it. I subsequently learned that the hygroscopic nature of ethanol makes it absorb water out of the air, and when it does so, it becomes even more corrosive than it already is. I'm glad I don't own a boat.

When I lived in North Idaho, ethanol damaged my chainsaw carburetor. The saw shop had plenty of carbs in stock, because they started ordering them by the case after the ethanol went into the fuel.

You are right about one thing: your experience isn't enough to convince me.

Ethynol is to the small engine repair business as the 1.6 gallon flush toilet is to the plumbing repair business :D

Years ago some enviro wacco was on the today show and advocated putting a brick in their toilet tank to save water. You cannot believe how many people acidently dropped the brick in the tank. Toilets are made of china. They do not hold up to a brick very well.

We installed about 40 new toilets in a two week period.

Can hardly wait tell the 1 gallon flush toilet is mandated. =D> It is for the environment.

So, instead of a 2 flusher, it will be a 4 flusher to get the crap down the drain?? Going to use just as much water :?
