Obviously, being gone for a couple of days has its penalties as I have no idea what went on. Maybe someone can PM me?

Zane - if you go fee-based, I'm in. Tell me how much and where to send the funds (PayPal?). I pay for far dumber things in life than membershipo in this disfunctional (but loveable) family.

Are we really a community?

I somehow missed the thread also so have no idea what this is about.

Turning someone into the feds is a pretty low thing to do and sad if the info came from here.

Many have fessed up to fellow pilots about mistakes we have made in an effort pass on hard learned lessons or to ease the pain of doing something stupid. We need to be able to continue doing that.If it means securing the website and there is a cost to it then count me in.

Snooze you loose, you guys cant be checking the site once in a while and expect the rest of us to catch you up. Check it every 15-20 min all day

My thoughts on the whole episode are this....

We don't know who the rat bastard was, could have been just as easy the tape the throttle, dont cycle the prop people.

The guy in question should have the balls to get on here and deny it, or tell us why he did it

I like a good hanging just like the next guy but this little pot of gold that has so magically been put in place by Zane and Mark is worth way to much to too many people to get split up by a lynching.

I for one will not pay to play on here, it stops nothing. I have said many times I will give, help, and support the leaders of this site but pay to be a member no way.

To me giving help and information about flying or aviation topics is a way to give something back or help new pioneers, if every one turns into a bunch of pussy's that have to do it all by the book new books will never be written.

Too bad this thing has become so volitile. Maybe someone on the forum did the dirty deed...and maybe they didn't. We're never going to find out, but tossing around accusations in the blind is destructive and does nothing but lower the normally high standards of conduct I've seen here.

I've watched flair ups on forums before and judging from experience this will blow over soon enough, when everyone gets it out of their systems.

I wish I could channel the ghosts of Don and Noel, they'd probably tell me to quit pissing away my time on a website.

Whether someone in here actually made the call to the feds is impossible to determine without an admission of guilt. Until then, everything is assumption and not worth spending time vilifying whoever we suspect.

I just wanted to raise some neck hairs in the original post. Pay-to-play is fundamentally against my philosophy of free information exchange, so what we're looking at here is probably a small paradigm shift in our own approach to contributing personally incriminating information in a globally accessible public forum. We will never grow as a community, or have any chance to collect the thoughts of the salt of the earth out there in Alaska who haven't heard of us yet if we go dark.

I've realized that not everyone shares my regard of this collection of people and posts as a "community." Some people simply come here to glean information, argue, or interface with other pilots in a format that specifically reduces personal interaction. Others are very invested in it personally, having made real friends and contributes hundreds of hours of personal time sharing their opinions and expertise.

Take from it or give to it what you want, we have to accept that we're not all operating on the same wavelength here. This place is not the same for everyone.

I have a solution though. If you want to share something you know we'll love, but feel could incriminate you, I suggest registering an "alias" user that is completely abstracted from your normal user. Or....perhaps we could all share the same alias login. We'll all know the password. Share by posting as the shared alias. When the FAA comes calling to haul this poor bastard to jail, someone is going to have to inform them that AwesomeBushPilot2000 is actually all of us. Who did what is too far gone to ascertain.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Great Idea Zane! After a few months, perhaps we could have the best ever collection of back country pilot stories, both truth and fiction? Then "Awesome Bush Pilot 2000" will go down in history as an individual who experienced the adventure, mishap, and defiance of a thousand men! The wankers among us would be driven nuts chasing down hidden identities, false tail numbers, and details pertaining to the most horrible imaginable violations to turn people in to the FAA, effectively preoccupying them so that real men with constructive agendas could carry on the way that most of us in this community find valueble...

N6EA you crack me up. I didn't think I'd find a laugh in such a relatively serious thread but one look at your quote and there it is. Your response reaffirms one of the great things about this forum and that is you've built a "family" out of a bunch of disparate characters from a multitude of different locations. What happened is a damn shame regardless of who snitched ,but you shouldn't let that destroy the trust that has been built up over time, if you do then the @$!% will have won.

As for AwesomeBushPilot2000 I hear he/she has some pretty good tales to tell :)

Set your time zone in your profile. It defaults to GMT.

Time Zone

My time zone is 2 hours before yours. I DID set it to CDST or GMT -5 hours. It seems many replies show saturday.

You're darn tootin!!! I was just talkin to him/her tother day and she/he said..............

All kidding aside, keep up the good work Zane. You have a lot of support here and, yes, it is a community. I know I have really enjoyed this goofy group since I stumbled upon the site. We, like most communities, just have a snitch or two among us or lurking. Can't be avoided probably.

I know that there are always folks that just have to "tell the man" and meddle. Like when I ground looped the buzzard at an uncontrolled airport. Since noone was injured I waited until the next day to contact NTSB. I was concentrating first on moving the bird out of the way and securing it. When I called the NTSB the next morning, they said they knew all about it as many people had called them "yesterday right after it happened!!!" Made me wonder why I was calling them. I know the entire event sure got the FAA looking at me for a 709 check ride. And if they can't find anything, some examiner will sure try harder. I was solo when I ground looped. The FAA examiner wanted to see my log book to see if I was current in my landings when it happened!!!! I wondered, "Who in hell cares? I didn't have a passenger!" I wisely kept my mouth shut though.
