I am a retired biker. In the club we had a saying, three can have a secret when two are dead.

Life is good. Life is better with wings.

For perspective, a little while back I was having a conversation with an attorney who works for the government.

He commented on several posts I've made on various forums.

As JrCubBuilder pointed out, if you don't want something in the public domain, don't publish it on an internet forum. All these "internet ID's" are totally meaningless.

So, it may well be that someone turned him in. It also may well be that several dozen inspectors in the FAA read this forum regularly.

I know that the agency I worked for had people spend many hours surfing the net, looking for bad guys, there's no reason to suggest the FAA doesn't do the same.

There is no anonymity on the internet, so don't post admissions of guilt. Problem solved..... :P

I quit drinking and raising heck years ago. I am very retired thank god. Lot's of the brothers gone over the years, one way or the other. The boys throw one heck of a funeral though. I attend funerals still, and stop in to say hi, on occasion. I bet most of ya dont know what bro stands for. Bend right over.

I suppose like anything, forums are a great source of evidence and leads. It's kind of sickening though that they'd spend time looking for new violations rather than just investigating ones they're already aware of.

Excellent point!! They should be more worried about many other things that are much more serious!

The point is, though, as someone pointed out on another thread, IF someone does complain to the FAA, and you've posted the details on a forum, it's really easy for the FAA to access that information.

The solution is really simple: Don't post anything that could be incriminating.

I'm guessing most mob hit men don't post their deeds on www.mobhits.org.

We probably should be careful what we post here or on any internet forum, lest we become targets for civil or criminal action.

Some years ago, one of the internet news outfits got sued (successfully) for slanderous remarks that a poster put up.

Keep it civil and intelligent, in other words. I missed the initial posts that precipitated this string, but common sense is always a good asset.

I like this place and hope it stays just like it is. Zane you are doing a great job and I for one appreciate it. It would be nice if there were no bad apples but we all know that is not possible.

This is really good advice. I don't think anyone on this forum would want more protection from the government for their privacy. You are responsible for protecting your privacy here.

My wife and I have taken a hard look at what we don on these forums. Google is a very powerful search engine.

If you don't want the world to know your business, don't put it on the internet. Share the essence, not the identifyable details.

I've been adamant since the start about concealing N#'s in photos and not listing them in your signature, or using them for your username, etc. The BCP Newbie's guide, which I update periodically, has recommended this practice since the first draft. It takes a high profile incident like this though for it to sink in I guess.
