AV30 Technical Support

Has anyone in the BCP community had need to contact uAvoinix for AV30 technical support and can report on their experience. It look like I will be chatting with them for some assistance !!

Have not needed tech help with AV 30, but did with Sky Beacon. Some hold time, but very responsive and helpful once on the line. Including replacing an early version that was faulty...no questions asked. Sent me a new one overnight.

What sort of problems?

Re: AV30 Technical Support

Same as what MTV said. I needed a little help on my tailbeacon and they were very helpful and quick to respond. My correspondence started through this site with Squawk@uAvionix. Might shoot him a PM.

Re: AV30 Technical Support

Good news thanks.

One of the AV30's is pitching +/- 5 degrees and rolling +/- 30 degrees while sitting perfectly still. It's also very slow to startup when compared to the other one installed beside it. To eliminate any EMI the original wiring was replaced with shielded and both units where update with the AV30 patch found on the uAvionix's support webpage.

Re: AV30 Technical Support

I needed help with a misconfiguration on my echoUAT. I sent a message through their website, and had a complete, detailed email response (with exactly the information I needed) about an hour later. Very quick and very efficient.

Re: AV30 Technical Support

A new world record has been established.

Based on a generic email support request an uAvionix tech rep phone me within a few hours. After some discussion, given the serial numbers and date of manufacture they recommended return both of my AV30's for "full on" mechanical upgrades. They will repair the failed AV30 and upgrade both it and the serviceable AV30 up to the to current build standard under full warranty coverage.

AMAZING support in my books

Re: AV30 Technical Support

That is good news. A PITA to have to R and R, but good to know they’re still responsive. A great Montana company!

Re: AV30 Technical Support

I also had good luck with them. I'm still having some ground noise with mine, I have to get back in touch with them to figure out what next steps to take. I had zero noise in the audio circuit before install.

Re: AV30 Technical Support

The avionics tech who fabricated the wiring harness replaced the spec'd material with a shielded wire.

Re: AV30 Technical Support

When did you get the AV30s? Are they Experimental or Certified version? Was there something about the manufacture that caused them to outright replace yours?
Considering these myself so . . .

Apparently its just the feed wires, power supply only not the ground but he did both instruments given their proximity to other sources of EMI

They where early serial # 59 & 60 both experimental models purchased in the early days thru AeroVonics. According to the tech support representative at uAvioinx numerous advancements in software, firmware and mechanically have been incorporated into the later serial numbers. Therefore they proposed that an outright exchange would be the better solution to prolonged bench work, I'm impressed to say the least.

Re: AV30 Technical Support

I have two of the certified versions, and am very pleased with them. Only issue I've had is that the DG tends to precess just a bit more than I'd like. uAvionix is working on a software update for this, which will be out shortly.

Only thing I'd do different is attach an update dongle so that software updates don't require dropping the panel, to access.

Otherwise, I am VERY impressed. Wish I'd had one of these back in Super Cub and Husky days.....a good "Get out of trouble" card, and they weigh NOTHING.

Re: AV30 Technical Support

The tech rep mentioned they are work on an update method that will not require a patch cable in the future.

Just had a certified one installed and very happy with it.

Looks like a company with a very bright future.

Re: AV30 Technical Support

Its an innovative product that has found a niche within the multitude of available avionic option these days. It's been seemingly well received, a great start and a bright future to grow on. It has a lot to offer at it's entry price, two can be installed for the same dollar was it's "apparent" competitor. Admittedly with a few less features and functionality but no less impressive and good value for it's asking price.

Re: AV30 Technical Support

I just did a long cross-country trip on Sunday, from Twin Falls to Tahoe and back. First trip longer than 1-1.5 hours since I installed the AVs. I second MTV's statement that the gyro precesses very quickly. Still need to solve the new noise in the audio circuit since install, but otherwise I continue to be pleased. I look forward to the software fix on the gyro and ultimately a magnetometer.

Likewise and given the serial #'s of my AV30's one of the leading reason for a complete "overhaul" as suggested by the uAvionix tech rep.
