Hookay, today I worked on putting the CGR-30P in. Got all the sensors but Carb Air Temp installed, put the EDC-33 and associated wiring harnesses in. The display is in the panel. Only got about 10% of the sensors hooked up so far.

gunny

EDC-33 and Manifold Pressure mounted on top of the glove box. Hey, its unused space and now the wires are out of the way of the controls and electrical system.

Re: C-180A Refurb project

A word of wisdom with respect to the E.I. install... Try to make damn sure you follow their exact guidelines on their crimping. E.I. is a fantastic company, and the tech support from Daniel and Tyler is top notch... BUT.... the weak point of the E.I. stuff is for sure their connectors. It is sooooo common to have downstream electrical problems because folks dont follow their protocol for crimping the wires.

So much easier to take the time and get them right the first time. Believe me... you dont want to be chasing electrical faults after you have packed 10 lbs of shit in the 5 lb bag. You will love the unit!

Looks excellent Gunny! I'm keeping a close eye on your panel layout, an ultimate combination of simplicity and function. We'll done!

Thank you for sharing your progress and updates.

Re: C-180A Refurb project

Finally got all the sensors hooked up for the CGR-30P. Man there are a bunch! BigRenna was right those EI connectors are a bit on the painful side.

Finally got most of my avionics to put the test panel together. Fabricated the bracket for the Xpndr/GTN-650. A little bit each day....

Re: C-180A Refurb project

Thanks guys. Right now my plan is to powder coat a flat black, the subpanel is a glossy/textured black.

Re: C-180A Refurb project

While the panel is being powder coated I tackled mounting a couple of boxes... the ACU for the Aspen, a preamp for my intercom (no audio panel), and the GDL-88. It's sorta on the big side and about the only place it could fit was under the EB baggage floor (where Barnstormer put his ELT).... glad I saved the spot. Now I've got to fish all that wire!

Re: C-180A Refurb project

Some times you feel like you're wandering in the wilderness on a project like this. Finally, today its starting to look like something! I've got the new panel in, all the instruments in and a whole LOTTA wiring to hook up yet... but it looks like a panel!

Mid-Cont 4300 Electric AI, w/Battery backup, STEC-30, Altimeter, Airspeed, Aspen 1000 Pro, GTN-650 (remote to GDL-88), GTX-327, CGR-30P, ASL digital fuel level gauge, iFly GPS (for sectionals, low charts, terminal charts and wx from the phone on the ground). Simple, clean, as light as I can conceive..... and it looks like its done!

That's the definition of "pins and needles", when you've flipped the master switch and pushing in the C/B's one by one just praying you don't see any smoke
