Cessna 205 - A worthy and affordable 6-seater
Technical and practical discussion about specific aircraft types such as Cessna 180, Maule M7, et al. Please read and search carefully before posting, as many popular topics have already been discussed.
I once asked in a forum if an STC to put old 210s permanently on amphib floats had merit. My thinking was 300 hp, get rid of the gear and the saddle AD, and the airframes are cheap compared to a 206. I was told that the airframe on a 210 is much lighter than the airframe on a 206 with float kit, and too many airframe mods would be needed. Skins are thinner and many doublers would be needed.
205 is a fixed gear 210, built under the same type certificate. I think the shortcomings would all ring true on the 205.

[quote="Grassstrippilot"]Yeah, to take full advantage you’d need something. I highly recommend getting one. I’m a big believer in their use to be able to see what is going on with your engine and to help trouble shoot any issues that arise. Even just a jpi 700 works well and gives you all you need. And they are fairly easy to come by used. And the savings in fuel will pay for both it and the Gamis in short order if you’re flying much.
Pm me your email and I’ll send it to you.
I am a new 205 owner for a few month. I am looking at installing a JPI 700 monitor. Probably just EGT and CHT. Any words of advice on extra options for the monitor. Advice from those that have installed one the “should and should nots.” Anyone know of a used one for sale? Thanks for the input!

Definitely include fuel flow. Not only to more accurately know how much fuel you have but to run LOP too. I have the 700 too. FYI, firewall forward is the same for the JPI newer versions, like the 850, so down the road if you want to upgrade it’s just a head swap.

Do you feel as if the fuel flow indicator in the 205 panel is not accurate enough? To hard to tell the injector spread? Thanks for the info!

At lower flows it seems close. At higher flows it’s up to a couple of gallons off.
More important is finding your Gami spread for LOP ops. When doing this you’re talking about a max spread of .5 gph and optimal closer to .1. You’re not going to be able to track that with an analog gauge.
Also knowing your total fuel on board. The accuracy of mine is usually within a gallon. Once vetted, it’s a really nice thing to how much you really have onboard. Especially knowing how poorly Cessna gauges work.

Great, thanks! That makes sense. I guess I could have it linked to my GNS 430s as well. I will definitely add that.
