CFI

I've been trying to carve out some time over the past two years, and with my CFI written exams on the cusp of expiring, I put life on pause and headed down to NC to finish the CFI. After an intense two weeks of nothing but reading, and then a beyond intense 10 day fire-hose drink, I'm proud to say I've finished my CFI.

Re: CFI

Congratulations! It’s been said that the CFI initial may be the toughest of ratings.....as it should be.

Now you have a license to teach and learn at the same time.

One of the “tricks” is to learn to always keep one hand very close to the stick/yoke, and the other very close to the throttle, all the while appearing to be totally casual.

Some student’s primary goal may be to try to scare the crap out of you.....so be ready.

But then there are those Zen like characters that just need some ballast while they perfect their trade.

Most of all, have fun!

Re: CFI

Congratulations! =D> That was not an easy one. I never used mine to teach primary but I have solo'd a few folks, done a small handfull of bfr's but the most fun I had was airplane demos/checkouts and a few tailwheel endorsements. That is the main reason I have kept it current for the past 17 years.

Where at in NC? I'm in the CLT area and would have bought you a brewski in your 4 min of spare time you probably had..... :D

Re: CFI

Congratulations! That is a big accomplishment. I’ll never let mine expire. Too much blood, sweat and tears went into getting it,

Congratulations! Who did you do your 10-day CFI with in NC, and would you recommend them to somebody in a similar position?

Congrats. I know the blood, sweat and tears - just renewed mine. Teaching both primary and specialized in helicopter and taildragger. Good advice from MTV, keep your hands close.

Re: CFI

Congrats, Greg!

Getting my CFII/MEI was one of the best parts of my early career - introducing new people to this thing we’re all so passionate about is a huge privilege. I ended up with over 1000 hours of dual given when I was flight instructing and learned SO MUCH in the process. It’s an incredibly gratifying thing to be able to pass on the passion to others.

Re: CFI

Thanks for all the nice words guys. It was certainly the hardest check ride of my career, but the most rewarding. All in, it was about a 10 hr day, but really a great experience.

Im looking forward to doing some TW endorsements this summer along with giving some short field training.
