Re: CFI

Congratulations! Just remember that every student (even those with advanced ratings) is trying to kill you. And have fun!

Re: CFI

I have heard this often and have to defer to you full time instructors, but I have had one student seriously endanger he and myself in 44 years. Like John McCain says, "we are more alike than different."

Re: CFI

Congratulations, Greg! Man - that is a big accomplishment for sure, especially with a little one demanding lots of your time.
While you were sweating it out in NC, I was doing the same with my commercial in NY. Onwards and upwards!

So true! I remember this one guy in particular. I think he was from somewhere in Alaska ;-)

Seriously though, Greg, your students will teach you an awful lot too. Teaching is a great way to learn :D

Congratulations and don't forget to have fun!

Re: CFI

Congrats, Greg! I think you've gotten some good advice, which I echo. My observation was that it was the pilots who were supposedly good, experienced, maybe working on advance ratings or already had them, who were the most likely to do something stupid that endangered both of us, typically during BFRs. Amazing how many couldn't handle a simple full power on stall recovery! Anyhow, as the sergeant in Hill Street Blues used to say, "Let's be careful out there!"

Re: CFI

Scariest students: Any helicopter pilot transitioning to FW. For some reason they want to flare 30 feet over the numbers.

Second scariest: Any 20,000 hour airline pilot wanting a quick checkout in a 172. When that guy shows up, it will not be an easy hour's pay.

Don't let it expire!!!! and I will tell you. When I got my first "real flying' job I let my CFI expire, I was just done teaching, period. Flash forward 26 years and I am studying to get my CFI reinstated, I was a company instructor at a couple of places and figured out I actually enjoy teaching.

I would say get a couple of primary students from the very get go, the first 100 hours of instructing taught me much more than I taught the students.

Have fun!

Not to steal Greg's thread,

but add another BCP CFI to the list in Boulder, CO. Passed my 9 hour checkride yesterday. My C180 being down for the past 5 months really helped out with the finding time aspect of it...
