Re: Flight Following

Doing great Bill,

Have the Commander's new prop on and flying. I am getting the 530W stack installed in it next week. Got the engine off the T-6 and torn down. And I hope to have the Pawnee wings ready to mount by end of March.

Did a test flight this morning in the Commander @ 7000ft 162 kts 17 gph, 155 Kts 15 gph, 144 knots 13.2 gph how fast can I afford to go

Well I guess that depends if there is a PO for some tractors waiting to be picked up  Congrats on the progress. =D> Is that new avionics going to be Next Gen or upgradable to Next Gen?

Re: Flight Following

Thanks for keeping eye on me!! I flew over Hawthorne and talk to the gal on the freq. to see if Gump was around, but he wasn't. So I kept trucking north over Walker Lake at about 30 ft agl :D (didn't see any coyotes). Stopped in to see Mr Scout for about 15-20 minutes (had the "Gotagethomeitis!!! Sorry Mr Scout!!). But good thing I got rolling when I did!

After getting fuel at Lovelock, it was bumpy as all get out so I climb up to 10.5 (nose bleed!!) where it was smooth as silk. Got close to McDermit and could not see the tops of the Owyhee Mts. Nothing but clouds. So I stopped at McDermit to take a pit stop and them motored my way north and sure as heck I couldn't get past Silver City. In fact, I found a huge hole to climb to 9.5 and saw nothing but solid clouds over the valley  . So I dropped back down and headed west for Owyhee Res. thinking I can follow the river downstream to Ontario, Or., or stay the night in the Hilton if I had too. But I found a hole by Three Fingers and heard a friendly female voice in a helicopter over Parma and she said the base of the clouds were about 4,000. So I followed a canyon down towards Parma and Homedale and made my way back to Caldwell before it started to get dark.

All in all, it was a great trip! I'll post some picture later tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks again, guys!!

Good work Pat. We flew from Salt Lake to Sacramento today in the CX and Nevada looked socked-in until we hit Tahoe. Sac was severe clear. What were the ceilings in BFNevada?? Glad you made it.

Waiting for pix too

You must have flown over in the morning? The weather was perfect all the way up past Lovelock. Then just scattered clouds till the Owyhee's. I can't remember the ceiling in BFN, but maybe around 7-8 thousand feet MSL.

Dropping back down below the clouds. Couldn't see the Owyhee Mts., so I figured I'd drop down below and in case I needed to land some where.

Re: Flight Following

Pat, thanks for the photo's. I have made that trip from Lovelock to Caldwell & back several times and it has been a bumpy trip every time at low altitude. I'll try going high next trip. I was warned by center of a lot of activity in the MOA at altitude last trip so I chose to slow down and stay low. Flying in bumpy air wears me out but dodging high performance is risky. Especially when the young fighter jocks are having fun :D

Yeah, we flew over at 745am. It was solid at that time- I remember because I was trying to look out the window and see Austin. Thanks for the foties, even a normal cross-country is fun to see through anothers' cammy =D>

BTW, did you meet Rob's Lot Lizard at Lovelock?? =P~

Looks like he is in green river.
The wind here has been really strong I bet he's waiting for it to die down before he heads into the canyon.

Re: Flight Following

If you click on satellite view his third hit shows a runway just north of I-70 which may be Mexican Mt. The 4th and last hit shows nowhere near a runway. Not sure if this Spot thing is a good or bad thing yet. Since his Spot doesn't do automatic updates he may have forgot to send another OK and could be sitting at Caveman now. Flynbeekeeper plans to look in the morning if no word
