Flying with Akaviator

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Flying with Akaviator

Huge thanks to my I.A. friend Billy who loves working on planes (as well as being a heck of a backcountry pilot, commercial float pilot, and 737 captain!) and has a fabulous hangar at Lake Hood. Popped in there this morning and we got her done early afternoon.

First landing, should have flared a little sooner...second was nice, third time around rolled a nice wheel landing on. At my normal 23/2300 (indicated on old analog gauges) I saw 125 mph on the way back to PAWS. Weather was low so I never hit even 1000' so more flying will verify the speed change. Previously I was seeing about 135 mph.

She really looks good now! AND functional for Alaska flying.

Re: Flying with Akaviator

So you "shelled out" with well above the "list" price !!!!

She does! She's on her way to Paris with a couple friends for a few weeks of vacationing in the city, and then off to hike in the Alps and Pyrenees.

Cool,

I saw your Facebook post in the Skywagons group and I forgot to comment.

That airplane is really good looking, and the scenery up there is just another level of awesome. Where in particular did you fly off airport? That looked like a really nice spot.

Thanks to all for the compliments.

The spot I'm at is called the Picnic Strip. It's just below the lake that is formed from the Knik Glacier.

Beautiful!!
I think the 1954 & 55 paint schemes are the best look for a 180.

Will do! May have to take my wife out through the pass if we get a nice weather day in October.

Re: Flying with Akaviator

A little bit of weather floating around today but took a little trip down to Kenai to visit my good friend and just exercise the 180 a little.

I love flying this time of year. The scuddy weather, the colors changing...just love it.

Re: Flying with Akaviator

Went out for lunch and when I came back I saw my plane had made a friend. What's better than a good looking 180? Yep, two of them.

Re: Flying with Akaviator

Heading back to PAWS it was more classic southcentral Alaska fall weather.
