Rome State (REO), Oregon is definitely on the short list for the most isolated airfields in the Lower 48. ODOT say they go there every couple of years and really do know much about it, per my last conversation.

The Steen Mountain Range is on the Horizon about 30NM away.

If you leave from Idaho you most likely see this... the Owyhee River:

This is just an archive thread. Any close ups of long lost strips of OREGON from charts of any kind or G-Earth are a big help. Discussions come up now and then about some old strip on this moldy old chart found in an attic. Put a pic here for the archive. Discuss elsewhere. That was Tyler's and my idea and plan anyways.

Thanks, and as always, please no 7500.

Ruckel Junction. 45 37.754, -118 07.873 Walla Walla Ranger District, Umatilla NF. In 1988 I worked on a Spruce Budworm spray project. We based the helicopters at what the old timers then called the Ruckel airstrip on an open ridge just east of Ruckle Junction. It was never on the charts but small planes landed there occasionaly. Supposedly one of the helicopter contractors landed a twin there one day to deliver parts. It is 1200 feet maybe 1500 feet long and 4500 feet elevation.

I have created an excel file of these airstrips. It is in Excel CSV format for import into Dynon Skyview. I figure it is at least a good set of user waypoints that might be a better choice in an emergency than other options. If you want a copy drop me an email and I can send it to you.

Malheur Wildlife Refuge, South of Burns Ore.
Completely removed. Would have been nice to stop there.
Documented.

The buildings to the left are the site of the now famous 2015 standoff between the FBI and a group of Citizens I believe.
