Joined up just because of this thread. Only been lurking for a couple weeks when I found this site through another. I'm still landing on nice smooth asphalt and concrete but hopefully will be setting the tires down on green stuff soon.

Cool to see someone else based at Nampa. What do you fly?

Re: Lurkers - Come Out Come Out Wherever You Are...

I'm a long time lurker. Finally got my pilots license a few months ago. Now I have 20 ish hours tail dragger time under my belt in a Stinson 108-3. Try to go out every day or two and fly a dozen touch and goes in all different wind conditions. I'm also now checked out in a Cessna 182. I started looking at this website because of all the cool places you guys go to. Next week I'm getting checked out on a piper Clipper. So far I'm loving the tail dragger time. Hoping to do some airplane camping this summer.

Long time lurker. Still a two digit private pilot, but recent graduate of the school of tailwheel (Majored in Piper L-4, minored in Taylorcraft BCS-65). Currently dragging the nose around in a rental Cessna 175 180HP. Got the first taste of airplane camping this weekend; there will be more. We'll see about leaving the pavement in the coming months.

Re: Lurkers - Come Out Come Out Wherever You Are...

Not sure if I am exactly a lurker, I look at the forums probably 2 or 3 times a week and my last post was April 26, 2012. Some time I will have to sit down and figure out to post a picture. Low time pilot but flew to Valdez this weekend for the first time. Kinda stressful when then winds are 15 gusting to 30 and on landing I am looking at a bent up Citabria (same as I am flying) at the end of the runway plus I am # 3 in line with 2 more behind me. Glad I went though made for a good time. 1 and a half hour flight sure beats a 6 hour drive.

Re: Lurkers - Come Out Come Out Wherever You Are...

am i a lurker? any way i joined. i don't have a plane or any aircraft but my first flight was EAA young eagles flight in 2009 and from there i took young eagles flight's in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. (at 18 no young eagles flight's) so i'm set on flying. i like tailwheel plane's and backcountry flying so this site is perfect for that. now i just need to get a plane and learn to fly. also i want to get sport pilot license and start to fly from their. - ansel

Ansel,

I am glad to hear the Young Eagles flights sparked the love of flying for you. As a young man I had the opportunity to go up with a local pilot when we had the opportunity to do a week long mini-aviation course for a week when I was in High School. It made all the difference for me.

When I was in high school we had a private pilot ground school course as an elective. The instructor made a deal with the students that if you got an A in the class and passed the written that he would give you 20 hours of duel in his Tcrate... Unfortunately, I got booted out of school before I finished that class, but I was one of 4 kids that kept an A in the class. That class was the only reason I went to school as long as I did.

It is too bad that we cant promote Aviation early on like we used to be able to.... We also had a "history or fire arms" class in Jr. High where we would get a black powder rifle kit and build it in school.. at the end of the year 1st and second semester had a shoot off. No one ever shot anyone and there was no accidents in the 5 or so years that class was offered. Sucks that the schools have declined to what they are today.

Re: Lurkers - Come Out Come Out Wherever You Are...

Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster- inspired/ coerced by my buddy bigrenna to join up.

I work for a 135 commuter flying C402s and spent the last winter flying the SLK to BOS run, moving to LEB this week. I'd much rather be flying something with the little wheel in the correct place though :)

If there's anyone in the NH/VT area who wants to do some TW flying I'd be happy to split some gas...

Look forward to coming by here more often,
Toby

Re: Lurkers - Come Out Come Out Wherever You Are...

I've been lurking for a while, mostly because I have nothing useful to add to the conversations at this point. I'm working on my private license here in Canada and I'm doing all my training in a Citabria. I was told the taildragger experience would help with float flying and make me a better pilot. I have a farm on the Fraser River and I'm hoping to get into float flying with a plane based on my farm. So I'm working on my license and looking for a plane for my family of 5 so we can all explore BC's wilderness eventually. I'm sure I'll come up with lots of newbie questions.

Welcome here! Where on the Fraser is your farm. Just flew up the Fraser about this time last year ferrying a 150. I'd like to take my wife down it in the 180 this summer sometime. Itd be great to meet some people along the way.

Re: Lurkers - Come Out Come Out Wherever You Are...

I've been hangin' from the rafter's for about a year or so now and as my handle implies, I'm Not A Pilot Yet, but maybe someday. When this thread started up the guilt over took me as though I'd been confronted with an intervention for an addiction problem. (nice tactics bigrenna!.. I'm really not that hooked,.... seriously. .. no, really......:D) So now that I've been outed as an FNG back country flying groupy you'll know why any queries I post will come across as though I don't know crappola about aviating. Hopefully I'll be able to contribute in other areas.

Anyways, what I enjoy about this forum, besides the obvious, is the very down to earth, reality based crew of people here. I am like a big sponge in the corner slopping up every detail I can and enjoying every minute of it. A big thanks to all the posters for that!

I live in the Flathead Valley in NW Montana by way of Colorado so am familiar with some of the scenery posted here. Flown in and out of the Aspen airport back in the day when Rocky Mtn Airways flew the twin Otters. Been up in a couple gliders and made a descent left bank turn for about 15 seconds in a Citabria and flew into Schafer Meadows back in 1992 for a hunting trip so have a little feel for what you guys are addicted to.

Thanks for the invite,
NAPY
