Are you on your way to osh with the 180? I am. Just finished late last night. Man this 180mph gs, I could get used to that.

Heck yeah, congrats on the big day! You have to be on cloud 9 right now. A well deserved cigar for an epic 180 build. =D>

Bigrenna,
I'm appreciating your paint scheme more and more. I always thought it looked sharp with the painted flaps and ailerons, but now it dawns on me that you avoided a lot of tedious polishing of ribbed control surfaces by going that route.

Re: Project: Skywagon - The Madness Continues...

Well Im happy to report I just did my first oil change and have 27 hrs on the clock. Still ironing out some small squawks here and there, but overall I couldnt be more pleased. Im gonna bang out another 25 in the next two weeks or so after which I will try to sit down and give some honest critiques of some of the choices I made on the build.

Image

In the meantime, the modifications have in no way stopped. (slowed perhaps, but not stopped) During the oil change today I took the opportunity to install the Sky-tec I picked up at OSH. Sorry bout the pics... just had the damn iPhone.

Saved almost 8lbs at -4.25". (welcomed as I have a pretty far fwd CG after all the mods, but more on that later...)

Congrats on getting some stick time! I'll be interested in hearing how the Skytech works out for you once you get some hours on it.

I'll take some time and write up a larger report... but I hate to think of those as the "small" tires. I have been switching back and forth. Im running the 8.5x10's now as Im on pvmt mostly. These are actually heavier by 3.5 lbs ea than the 29s. Gonna save the 29s for my trip out west.

RE: Speed... I've been runnin around at about 155 mph. I will be doing some testing with 8.5x6's also.

RE: CG im at 34.5", which is pretty far fwd. W/ just reserve fuel and just me I have to keep 36 lbs in the ext baggage to keep w/in the envelope. I've been running w/ about 50lbs back there which feels pretty good.

The starter is a start (but is only going to walk the CG back a tiny but.) Been starting to think about an MT up front which will set me up pretty good.

More of that to come...

Re: Project: 180 Skywagon - The Madness Continues...

Well, just did my 2nd (50hr) oil change on the wagon. Pretty good I think (51hrs in less than 2 mo)

I was doing some grass  the other day and a kind soul shot a pick as I taxied across the field. Just eMailed me the pic. Still working out some small odds and ends, but overall I am pretty pumped at how she is flying. (Still trying to get some time for a detailed after action)

Re: Project: 180 Skywagon - The Madness Continues...

Been flying the piss out of the old girl lately, but ran into a stumbling block that has had me grounded for two weeks with a bad prop gov. Sent the old Garwin out for overhaul which got my wheels turning....

Regrettably, I fell victim to temptation..... #-o
