Cool.
BTW, there's a 170 Belly Drain Kit on eBay right now. Nice addition if you've got things apart anyway.

Man, you really are determined to get the cost of that thing to $100 K.....
If it says titanium, bring $$$$. I know a guy who makes carbon fiber tail springs....incredibly light, but......

I'm not interested, but Tom has been good to me, so I'm just putting it out there.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Looking good Rob!
But just a word of caution... it sure does come apart way faster than it goes back together. The deeper you get, the further you move away from summer flying. (Dont ask me how I know)
Regardless, its worth it in the end. You are going about it the right way indeed!

True statement, I may be renting to go to JC this year. I have access to a nice T-41.

That's what I rent, but they won't let me go to grass or anything other than paved. I've begged and begged, and worked for them, no luck....just pavement.

Nothing against unpaved surfaces for this one, just has to be at least 2000x50.

I finished stripping the rest of the belly today... what a pain in the ass! At this point the fuselage is about 99% stripped, there's just a few areas left that need to be cleaned up.

Looks great Rob. I'm following closely as my '56 172 is quite similar. Two years ago, I pulled all the antiquated narco junk out of mine, i put everything in a box and it weighed 42 lbs! I replaced the 42 lbs with a garmin audio panel. The adf cable alone weighed 13lbs! Good luck! Keep the pics coming.

Rob,
Good to see your machine has the access port for a fuel selector quick drain....that drain can save you a lot of grief.

UPS delivered a bunch of goodies from Selkirk and Great Lakes Aero today! I weighed the 1/4" Selkirk foam and a 20'x55" roll weighs 7.6lbs, not bad.

Rob when you go to start making a new panel make your template out of lexan it is way easier when you can see through it as oposed to something opaque like cardboard or plastic. Plus you can trace your instruments on it with a dry erase marker to see if they clear all the brackets before you start cutting.

And make me a new panel too, as long as you're making panels and stuff...
Seriously, this is getting contagious. It's taking all the restraint I have to not rip my plane apart.

I was down last week helping Rob
On his 170. as it turned out when we were pounding rivets we counted about a 100 of them not 60. We hadn't done any riveting together in over 10 years and we fell right back into it just like it was yesterday. It was a lot of fun.
