Would like to add on a follow up to this--
Would an O-300 engined Sedan perform well on skis with 2 people, reasonable fuel (say 25 gals), and some gear perform reasonably on skis, either wheel or straight? Let's call it a total load including fuel of around 600lbs.

Yes, I’d bolt an 8042 prop on it.

Thanks! Still in very early research mode, but the Sedans seem a great fit for me.

Mine was absolutely wonderful to fly. I rode in an O-300 powered C-170A recently and was surprised at how much more eager to leave the ground my Sedan was.

Good info to know...the 170 also being on my radar. At 6'2" and with a desire to pull backseats and carry bicycles, the cabin size of the Sedan is a big driver, but the performance is also important.

I "halved" the bench seat in my 170 and can now comfortable carry two MT bikes or remove it completely and be the camp freighter

I'm definitely used to being the freight hauler...even with the smallest vehicle. I think either the 170 or the Sedan will have cargo space enough in back, it's the comfort of the front seats that may be a difference maker. Ultimately, I will likely pursue a good, clean example of either rather than being locked into a one plane mindset.
Definitely appreciate your insights, how did you "halve" the bench seat? Converted to two separate seats?

There are many options for the bench seat, remove it, replace it with an STC product such as Atlee Dodge, Lakevue etc. In my case I simply striped it of all materials, cut it in half at the center support, recovered and installed back into the same provisions other than I "fixed" the back into a solid position as the side wall mounting where no longer suitable. If you'd like a picture or two I can send them to you directly and not pollute the site with random snapshots of minimal interest to others

Thats an ingenious solution, but as i recall your airplane is operating under canadian "owner maintenance" rules. IMHO that mod might be a toudh sell for a USofA field approval.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
That's correct its on an OM C of A however its the exact seat, in the exact same position, exact same C of G provisions and strengthened to maintain the strength and integrity of the structure so it might be worth asking at least.

Takes about a minute to remove the Sedan's back seat.

In my somewhat limited experience with the Sedan, I found them to be significantly better performers than most 170s, at similar weights. That has to be a phenomenal airfoil, considering all this and no flaps......

I was very conflicted between a Sedan and 170B, it really came down to which became available first. I would have been happy with either one, after all they are both Round Tails

I've had both and kept the 170B because it was the one I did my first solo in.

Great to see this information coming forward...and it sounds like either bird will have the capability to meet my mission (2 pax with full fuel and gear, 3 pax with light gear and ~2h fuel, mid sized unpaved strips and some off airport).
