SQ2'n to Alaska

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

SQ2'n to Alaska

Starting this thread so I've got a place to post pictures while on the trip up. Leaving this Saturday at the crack of dawn. Forecast shows a tail wind each day all the way to Whitehorse. What's the likelihood of that holding out. Be awesome if it did.

Re: SQ2'n to Alaska

You just missed a big storm hereabouts. Mountains above 5,000 feet (500 feet above our valley floor) just got 2 to 3 feet of snow. In the valley we got four inches or so. Should slow the fire season a bit, and keep the trout waters running deep for a while.

Fly safe, and enjoy the trip..

I thought I used up all my Wx chits at the Roundup. Guess for some reason I'm still being smiled upon.

Thanks I'll see you Sunday.

So here is almost everything going in the SQ2, except for me, my clothes, my toiletries, my snacks, and my laptop.Image

And here is my temporary Rube Goldberg heater hose setup so I can keep warm if needed as well as defrost the windscreen (works great for the backseat person as well when I have one). Normally I don't hook this up, but just in case.Image

Re: SQ2'n to Alaska

So, is the SQ2 staying at your place in Sterling or is it a round trip?

I have made the mistake of watching the weather on skyvector, beautiful weather the last couple days all the way. Hard to sit here waiting knowing that there are so few days a year that are this good, I'm hoping they are not all used up by the time I get to go in 2 weeks. [-o<

Chris, planning on leaving it up there contingent on me finding a hangar to leave it in, have two good leads on that. I won't be able to get my hangar started till next year.

Re: SQ2'n to Alaska

Hope the hangar works out. I like you heater set up, likely not too necessary this trip, but it will come in handy.

Re: SQ2'n to Alaska

On the way (Goldthwaite Texas area). Started out with a 20mph headwind and had to dodge a thunderstorm, but wind is down to 6.Image

38 to 40mph headwind, so much for weather forecasts. Changing course to KTDW in hopes of finding better wind

Same here, for me, last time but going south to the Mexican Boarder. I was going backward! 50+ Headwinds was a conservative estimate.

Dalhart, Texas was my unscheduled haven. Spent night/day watching the biggest convection clouds known to mankind!

Except for the prison Dalhart, TX was a great place, excellent FBO ( the owner was on 60th year in business). Gave me the keys to his Ford for the night.

Fly strong Mr. Phill :D

Re: SQ2'n to Alaska

If it's any consolation, we had 25 - 50 mph headwinds for nearly 2,000 miles going down and back to Baja. Was still worth the trip! We feel your pain! Are the semi's passing you yet? :(

Keep sending pics! I'm jealous!

How's 83 compare to the SQ's no wind ground speed?

I'm sure you'll have a blast, I'll be watching this thread. Must have missed you yesterday, I flew down to the ranch but saw that you had opted to swap the rear suspension set up back out.
