I carry a small compass, and some small rope, a signaling mirror, knife , first aid kit, space blanket, tea, hard candy, candle, matches in a water prove container, a sleeping bag, and a few other things I can't remember just now.

Umm, I think you forgot to mention beads and other cheap goods for trading with the natives. Might even get to use that condom . . . er, for carrying water in an emergency, of course.

Works really well for your rifle as well. Of course if the barrel of your gun is pointing down it really is not needed.

Gotta keep the rain out when it's pointed up, ya know.

Survival depends on where you fly. I carry a small bag (6" X 10") containing a compass, a couple of space blankets, matches, signal mirror, Leatherman, wool watch cap, small mag-light and a pair of nomex gloves. I dress for the weather and wear good shoes. I keep my cell phone handy and my credit cards paid off.

If I ever go down in the wilds of Pennsylvania, I could probably find someone within three days walking in any direction.

I wouldn't need a gun unless I went down over a major city.

that is a good list, pa. if u can just keep it on your body should u go down, that would work great...
i usually have on my self, my spot,cell phone,credit cards,liscense and medical,compact big bore pistol...damn hard to carry much more thatn that...hopefully u will have time and not a fire to deal with...

I appreciate where you're going with this. However, I would ask others to respectfully not let this turn into attacking or second-guessing any actions or decisions by the pilot and passenger. From what I know, this could have been any one of us, and then it would be you or me that would now have to live with it. So with that in mind please keep it constructive. Or, as O&F says, it may be sufficient just to take the time to think about it.

A Cessna 150 is not known for its shoulder-room, particularly in winter when wearing a heavy jacket. So a vest is not practical.

The bag I described is about the same size as a shaving kit and is stored just behind the passenger seat. If I have time to get out of the door, there is time to grab it as I exit.

If there's a fire, I'm just SOL.

I always have a Leatherman on my belt, and I will start carrying a magnesium fire-striker. If I'm not seriously injured and I can stay warm and find water, I'll survive.

I live in a different type of environment than most of you guys, so my wish-list of intended survival gear may be a bit different. And it's a shorter list, because my plane is limited on storage space. Anyways...here goes....
