Re: Taildragger training - mind blown!

Av8or2Skier,

I'm pretty new to this forum. I feel I have to add, please remember that these threads can take on a life of their own. Often people are responding to the last post and not the original question or thought. Very often the original question or thought is lost.

I personally received my ticket when I was 48 years old, so I've been flying for eight years. The experience that the pilots on this forum offer cannot be bought anywhere. As someone else said they are often direct and as I mentioned, they are very often responding to the last post not your question (human nature).

Personally I cannot wait to meet these pilots out and about, I have never found an internet group that I am so addicted to. So I would suggest that you forgive their directness and learn from their experience.

Clear Skies,

Well, I for one can clearly see the cause of Av8or's frustration when he says "the ball is in the middle" and the comeback is "skidding turns will kill you"

"but the ball is centered"

"find a new CFI"

He's got to be scratching his head wondering if anyone is even reading his posts.

My point was HE might benefit from doing some reading on aerodynamics. Its been well described before, no point in repeating here. And, aerodynamics of turns isn't something you can describe in 30 words or less.
I meant him no offense, just do some reading. And, if his CFI can't explain it to him so that he can understand it.....

Re: Taildragger training - mind blown!

And I am learning... from a CFI that is regarded as a legend.
Unless I missed it, you haven't mentioned his name, but there's a good possibility from your description that he taught me aerobatics back in 1979 or 80. If so, I agree that you can learn a lot from him. My intent is not to disparage him, or you, but often what I've seen on this and other forums is a statement like, "my CFI said -----", and it turns out that the student/pilot misunderstood or misstated what the CFI actually said. I have also seen my own students and BFR clients get the ball way out of the cage and not notice it, either in their pants or with their eyes.

In any event, even the most experienced and skilled of us, whether here on this forum, on other forums, or whom you might have sitting in the right or back seat teaching you, is still a student at one level or another. It is impossible to know all there is to know about aviation, even our small piece of it.

It's also not unusual for a turn and bank to be
1) out of adjustment so that the plane isn't doing what the T&B is showing
2) not even installed in the airplane
I learned to fly in a taildragger 48 years ago. Since then, about 3/4 of my flight time has been in planes that don't have a turn and bank. For those reasons, I personally think it best not to become too dependent upon one.
