Re: The Big Cessna 180 / 185 Empty Weight Thread

I'm at 1675 right now on my 1955 with O470JCR, full oil, 88" mac, plane power alternator, remote oil filter, and a firewall EarthX battery. I still have my vacuum system along with a standby vacuum system, standard gear legs, and shaved desser 8.50s on 6-bolt ABW wheels and cleveland double pucks, bush stol cuff (horton with fences).

I think my biggest issue is the 3 different paint jobs all stacked on top of another and 70 years of dirt and oil. I think I know what my project for next winter will be. Hell, the 12" numbers must weight 5 lbs alone!

She was 1560 new from the factory in 1955 with mostly polished and desert red accents.

I’m stripping my 185F right now, also three different colours showing up. Will advise on a stripped reweigh for science.

Science would dictate no other changes to your plane with a weight before and after paint stripping on the same certified scales. Otherwise the waters are muddy! ;-)
