Maybe makes it less of a squirrelly bastard on the ground?

Ghan, did Savilles build that one? What kind of gear is that. My customers gear just failed at the point where that crossbar joins the front tubing. I've never seen a gear fail like that where it end up going forward.ghan wrote:Sure enjoying this thread - some very nice airplanes! Thought I’d add a couple pics of my Bushmaster. Left seaplane door - cub style gear - PA 18 tail - cuffed leading edge - micro vgs- continental 0-470 - 1501lbs empty 3000 lbs gross.

Fortunately not much damage. Looks like new gear legs and prop and carry on.Pinecone wrote:Gary? That sucks.
ghan wrote:Hi A1 skinner. I built my airplane- but the Savilles are close neighbours so were a great resource during the build.
The supercub style gear was incorporated to hopefully avoid a break like the one you are working on.
That looks like Ray Woodward’s old airplane - if so it was mostly built out here too
Cheers
Ya it's definitely -18 gear with the wide spread and the cabane V underneath. I agree that it's much better then the Pacer gear. If you look at my picture a bit closer you can see the bungees under there.ghan wrote:Looks like Pacer gear - if you look at the gear on my plane you will see that the forward and rear attach points are much further apart than the pacer style - the thought is that it would take a much harder hit to damage the gear - also the hydrasorbs are out from under the seats allowing for much easier servicing and seasonal float changes.

Thanks Zane. We already have a cabane V so we will check out the trimmer gear. We also plan on TK1 suspension now so we'll see how that goes.Zzz wrote:A1Skinner wrote:My customers gear just failed at the point where that crossbar joins the front tubing. I imagine they can fail anywhere in the assembly depending on the quality of the welds and possible presence of hidden corrosion. The Trimmer 18 gear mod is the way to go, but there's a more reasonable intermediate solution.
We beefed up our Raven gear with a follow-on field approval initially authored by Eddie Trimmer and then Steve's Aircraft.
