Bill--

Welcome to BCP, Bill Shawn and I went down it was great. I would have loved to gone again today but had a appointment in LGD (would rather have flown there too). Hows Red Bird liken' the new Ticker and the new Screw? Have only heard you out a few times since you got it back up in the sky, I try to get as much time in as I can when weather permits that is. I'll give you a shout next time I'm out......

Now all you need is some BIGGER tires...

Bigger tires, a couple of new gauges, a jump seat....the list goes on and on....gotta love these airplanes....got 10 hrs on the new engine...and I still dought that it would keep up with your new Maule  but with the 80-42 prop and the new ticker, it's a bunch better...

lousy weather

No new flying around here lately, Heavy snow, heavy rain, heavy wind, yuck The big boys with the expensive toys like full glass panels have flown a few days out of the last weeks but "Charlie" will just stay in the hanger for now. I will thrash around on a snowmachine for the present.

JOHN! I was wondering what you were up to! You & Jr. have been suprisingly quiet.
No flying today, 10-12" of new snow (!!!) and the skis are on. I'll take the Peril onto the lake in the morning provided the winds stay calm. Have the tie downs frozen in and it's all goooood!
Saw one guy scud running over the house in a -12 (cub) we ducked as he came by.
Lined up some instruction on the 1st with a neighbor. I would love to have this guy join the forum. One of his first instructors was Don Sheldon, went on to the Air Force academy, jet jock, test pilot and a long stint flying Denali now for UPS and a Drill Sgt. of an instructor. MTV, you might know this guy. All in all, a great intro for me to skis.

jmtgt, you peaked my interest when you mentioned the Piaggio which I am not familiar with. I googled and they appear to be a large twin engine pusher aircraft. Would you mind sharing a little about the plane? Thanks. Steve

Ocotillo Wells ,Ca.

Flew to Ocotillo Wells, Ca. both Saturday and Sunday for "artery closing" Carne Asata with rice and beans at the Desert Rose Cafe, great Mexican food, next to the L - 90 dirt strip. Weather 73 degrees and sunny!.. but dusty from the thousands of RV bikes running around the Anza Borrego State Park. Five planes Saturday and three Sunday. Practiced my wheel landings, three were good but my go-arounds were even better! My follow posters say I must be good a both, however most airports have multiple runways for windy days and I would not hesitate to land a three point on a taxi way if the situation required it for a safe landing. I am also amazed at the Box Canyon performance of the M-7 235 on short radius 360 turns. A power stall at 22 square showed a VSI of 2500 ft / minute. Took a lot of pictures and will post when I learn the system. I always fly at 100 feet below sea level over the Salton Sea and have my new passengers take a picture of the altimeter for their home crowd. The Sea is 250 feet below sea level on the south end. Come on down to the Desert....Garv

Finally got out on the skis! What fun! Anywhere that's flat (Mostly) is now a runway. Learned the hard way about frost on the ski bottoms and a cold soaked battery too. -18 on the ground at noon (Long lunch day...) and 15 above at 1000'. This adds a whole new dimension to flying. Two feet or so on the ground now with maybe a bit more coming towards the end of the weekend.
Beats the rain any day.

Have to fly from Phx to Monroe, LA. on an educational mission 8) With the two flight schools on our field, departing there on a Monday am would only be a little worse than leaving... say... LAX :x ! Soo I left this afternoon to get a head start on things. Not wanting to deal with the Rockies Wx on this one, I opted for the southern rt. and am overnighting in Deming, NM. Planning on stoping somewhere around Grahm, TX. tomorrow and then on to LA Tuesday am.

Not sure how much free time I will have (weekends etc...) but have never spent anytime in Louisiana or thereabouts. Anyone have any must see must do suggestions? I will be there for the better part of a month. A PM would be cool if this is not an appropriate place to post!

Thanks! Rob

Hey everyone.

Yesterday I did the longest GA cross-country flight I have ever done. A friend and I went to Enid, OK to fly a 2000 C182 back to Odgen, UT. We flew from WDG to Cheyenne via Goodland, Kansas for the first leg. Had lunch in Cheyenne, then on to OGD via Rock Springs, WY. The winds at Cheyenne were 280@27G38 when we landed. For the rest of the flight over we had around 40 knots on the nose, yeilding at worst a 60 knot ground speed and at best, a 114 knot GS. All in all, a long day of flying (8 hours on the money) but man, a lot of fun! The aircraft ran great with a new engine on it and the four axis auto-pilot made the trip less tiring. Except for the wind, it was great flying weather. To be able to do a flight like this and talk to ATC as little or as much as one wants is really a privilage that I hope we never loose. We are definately fortunate.

Flew to the cabin on Saturday with the man cub with a bunch of freight (fuel, propane & such) flowing a relatively heavy snowfall. Managed to deal with 3' of bottomless powder. Knew we were going to spend at least one night waiting for the runway we put in with the snow machine while it hardened up. The next day, the weather guessers got it really wrong in that they were saying that the weather would be OK with ceiling & visibility but accompanied with turbulence until noon. So, I waited until 11 to heat the engine and checked the weather again at 1pm. It was 1/2-1 mile vis at home, snowing like Hell. So, I shut it all down and spent the afternoon with the boy playing and riding. Next day was clear and beautiful (as the previous day there at the cabin) so we got everything put together (heated) and took off about 1pm and had an incredible flight home. The Alaskan range was illuminated to such a degree as to catch your breath. 3-5 miles vis at home, a great time with the boy and his dog, a weekend I won't forget and more experience to add to the log book. A favorable outcome on all ends. Does it get better? I doubt it, add chamber music to the pictures and memories, and it would be an appropriate finish. I am again, a lucky man.

Kurt,

Did you get choked up again? ;)
I wouldn't mind wrestling with 3 ft of bottomless powder right about now. Been workin way too much, not enough play. You're a lucky guy.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

Hi guys: I got out yesterday. Nothing impressive but I had not flown for a week so I needed some practice. My landings were good for me. Full stop with very little braking in under 1000’ Did some wheel landings also, felt great. Kept it on the centerline too. I’m over the numbers at 60mph full flaps. What do you think, should I be slower? Maule M7 235C Cheers…Rob
