Nice, Tom.
Headed out to the Dalles today and met Rob and his friend Steve.
Troutdale had typical winds of 20 knots gusting to 25 so the gorge was a bit gusty getting started. Once around 5,500 the roughness subsided.
Got a change to see Rob's sweet ride, almost as nice as mine. But Hey, I don't own Rob's Maule.
Rob made some nice comments about the 150. "Keep it light", he reminded.
Note to self: Leave toothbrush at home.
Sorry Rob, I forgot to grab my camera to snap shots of you departing.
Rob had to get back, allowing life's chores to interfere with a good flying day. The greenbacks sucked out of his wallet from the previous days activities probably fogged his sense of reason.
Rob suggested I head off to Arlington (1S8) or Wasco State. Arlington is a 5000 foot turf strip... well mixed gravel and bunch grass. Wasco is paved but shorter. I opted to head to Arlington, about 40 miles to the east.
The runway sits at 860' or so on a plateau above the town. A quick flyover didn't reveal any gaping craters or large hoofed herbivores, so I decided to go for it
Gawd, I took up half the runway. Density altitude, that must be it.
A little turbulant with the heat and about a 7-10 knot wind from the east.

Best backcountry plane ever (cause it's mine):
