The hotspring property is on the south side of the runway, and town is a ten minute walk to the north.

Here's the AirNav info for Dearwater International/O79

http://www.airnav.com/airport/O79

The Sierra Valley is a wonderful place and like stepping into a time machine. I spend as much time there as I can, and if it wasn't in the state which shall not be mentioned, I'd really consider living there... On second thought, forget it. They know what snow shovels are. Don't want to live where ya got to shovel the stuff.

Skipped a day of work last week, put some lunch in my daypack and was in the air to see the sunrise ( amazing how much enthusiasm a guy can have when not at work:-) Landed at Gleason flats on the Salt river east of Phoenix to do some hiking.

Good winter rains this winter made for a super wildflower display.
Soon this area will be blazing hot, bone dry and the awakening rattlesnakes will have reclaimed their territory but today it was a wonderful place to be.

Paul, see the PM I sent you; it is open to the public, but membership is required, just costs extra. They are very friendly and it couldn't be easier to get to. The town can't be more than a mile away.

Gump, how come we've never seen you there? Or are you the guy skulking in the shadows ogling all the hippy chicks trying to figure out what their tattoos are of... no, that wouldn't have been you because your plane would have been there.

You guys are a great source of information...it's been a long hard winter, so when I say I have really got a kick out of how this all unfolded.....one minute I didn't know anything about this place much less than even where it was..Now I got the whole low down.

Thanks You made my evening.......

Nice photos. You know, I like to think our planes live for that sort of stuff as much as we do...

Nope, not me. I've never been to the springs by O79. We used to go to a great spring off Iron Bridge Road, northwest side of the valley off A-23. Just a hotspring in the middle of a field. But, too many people left gates open and trashed the place, so the owner filled it in with rocks and covered it with dirt. Some great campfire tales from there that I'll share with a bottle and a good cigar someday.

All my Sierraville gang have migrated to Calpine now, and that's where I hang my hat when up there. Sid's place in Sierraville used to be "The Spot", and many a day was spent hurting myself there with Bud and Betty. But they're gone now, and the kids sold the place. Just ain't the same.

But Calpine is cool, and Sierra Valley Lodge has a bar and restaurant that are both worthy.

Sierraville Hotspring is definitely not for everyone. It's a very funky, pretty nice place, but you need a good tolerance for people who regularly use the words "chi", "karma" and "goddess" in everyday conversation. Anyone (who pays...it is a private resort) is welcome to soak there, and I've never had anyone try to convert me to whatever crackerjack new-age religion is hot at the moment, but it's unquestionably a haven for people on the fringe of what most of us would consider sanity. I'm not bothered by that, in part because I know they are thinking the exact same thing about me, but it's something to consider before you join up.

It's also clothing optional. While that can be entertaining, it can also be rather disturbing. The average patron appears to have the misconception that if you buy it from a health food store, it's not fattening. It's probably an indication of my shallow nature, but there are some people I just don't want in my particular batch of human-stew.

I've found that the quality of the experience is pretty much inversely proportional to how many people are there when you are. The hot-hot pool is not filtered, and while water does flow through it, it's not a place to be simmering after a busy holiday weekend. Full moons are best avoided altogether, unless you are really into improvational drumming. On a quiet cold morning when only one or two other people are there, it's pretty neat. It's also one of the few places in this part of the world you can easily fly to and do something other than eat lunch.

That's why I never went there...

Hotsprings off Iron Bridge.... Nekked cowgirls and a bottle of Jack.

Sierraville.... Braided armpits and smoking rolled cat turds.

Do the math.

I left S49 Vale, OR. this morning at 8:18 Mt and flew to LGD La Grande, OR. landing about 40 min. later at just a few min. after 8:00 PT. It was a nice flight. High clouds and light winds. This was the first flight of any distance since my annual inspection on 9054N. I was glad I made a smooth landing, because I made a bad one on a short flight last monday. I will fly home (S49) later this afternoon. Bob

This year's annual ski plane video is going to end up around 30 minutes if I'm not careful with all the footage taken.

It was just an idea for a beginning. Needs LOTS of work! I wanted to keep the Rockford thing going but thought it prudent to play by the 5 second copywrite rules. (the guy whose voice mail answers the phone actually owns this Husky. I called his cell when I knew he was in the air and wouldn't answer. :D

I don't think you need to worry about that unless you're selling the DVD's. Are you?

Nah, not worth the hassle. These are more like albums for the local gang and a few others.

Okay - feedback is to keep the Rockford theme.

Rob, Just curious, on the damage none? Was that to the targets you were shooting, or were you refering to the aircraft? :?
