Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Had a little time to kill in the middle of my "work" day today, dropped into one my favorite secret spots in Desolation Sound(BC) for lunch.

Oh yes, the water was very warm too.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Hysham, Montana, for breakfast, where I had the chance to show retired (but once one, always one I'm guessing) astronaut Commander/Colonel Frank Borman my Rans S-7S, e bike combo. I said something like " bet you haven't seen anything like this before." I briefly explained how I get all my fuel via the e bike, it's folding trailer and the 9 gallon fuel bladder, my mo' mo gas getter. For a man who's personally seen the backside of the moon, it takes a lot to impress him., this apparently didn't  All he said after my dissertation and before getting in his pristine T something (34?) was "you have a nice day now." #-o Point being, with all his aviation experience, I doubt he ever had to hustle around and get his own fuel, my operation was outside his vast realm of experience. That's OK, it was a thrill meeting him, that's two of them I've met, the late Jim Irwin was the other. At 88 he is still flying =D> I noticed he did what seemed like a very thorough preImage take off check before taxing out, at his age and with his history, he probably doesn't want to screw the pooch now,

Re: Where did you fly today?

Finally got a rental deal straitened out, and got to take the plane out today. First flight with my PPL (not counting the 1.5 months of instrument training with an instructor after I got my license).1/2 an hour just flying around, then some takeoffs and landings, getting use to the plane.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Didn't take a picture, but took a Scout that we finished rebuilding for a few laps today to check/get the rigging right on it. Man she's sweet. Really gets me fired up to start on my project.
Today's flight also pushed me over the 500 hr plateau. Took me 5 years to get there. Not to bad for a just for fun pilot. Almost feel bad that I cheated on the 180 with a Purdy new Scout to break over that hump though...

Don't worry, your 180 will get it's revenge on the next cross-windy day.....

Good eye Tim. I think it gets put on a set of federal 2500s. Not totally sure. We just did a complete rebuild for the guy.

I thought I recognized the hanger. You are very fortunate to be learning from Josef. He is a true a craftsman and a gentleman. Josef looked after some of our aircraft for several years. He has rebuilt 2 different Scouts for me. I still have one of them. It gets compliments on the workmanship every time I have it out. Tell him Rod says hello. I will try to stop in and visit next time we are down that way.

It would be great to meet you! I feel very fortunate to be learning from him. He is a great teacher, and as you said a true craftsman. We were just talking about the Scouts he built for you the other day.
I will let him know you say hi. If we are ever up that way we'll have to stop in.
