A 65 mile flight to Alpine Wyoming, for the umpteenth time, but something different: a 25 mile ride (round trip) up the canyon that the Gray River runs through.
The Box Y dude ranch (
http://www.boxylodge.com/) is up there, a place I had flown into a few years back after it's owner had contacted me concerning solar power, as it's off the grid. He was surprised when I offered to "stop by," not knowing I had a skiplane. He cautioned me before giving permission for me to fly in, in that the Husky/Aviat crew had talked about flying in there for a publicity shoot, but ONLY if a minimum of 2,000' of runway was groomed for them. I told him that was not required for my bird, and landed in the untracked deep as hell powder, a fun trip. Though it WAS very close to being too deep etc., I of course wanted to rub the noses of the Aviat ski fliers in the snow a bit
I had a vague idea of checking in there again, on the eMontague this time, but after 12 miles or so, and the start of of the gravel road becoming real soft. almost muddy, I decided to make a 180 and head back down to Alpine and hit the Yankee Doodle cafe for breakfast. I was back home by 10:30, just another day in paradise. There is of course no audio in this still picture, but let me tell you, that river was roaring. The eMontague/S-7S combo continues to amaze me, total fuel burn for this flight was 7.2 gallons of regular/low octane mogas, and the electricity to charge the ebike battery was provided by the Rotax en-route, thanks to a 12 VDC to 52 VDC converter.

How's this for a curt car?!
