To north of Helena MT. until increasing winds aloft made me decide I really didn't need to get to Cut Bank after all, and made a 180 and played around all the way back home. Down low, where the dead on my nose headwind was less, a good excuse for flying low, as if I needed one. I posted this pic on a crane forum, with the post " I hope this operator was a fly fisherman, he's working on the Madison River, one of the premier sites in the country for that foolishness." The headwind made me throttle up a lot more then normal (so I'd spend less time fighting it, flying a slow plane I use every trick I can) and my fuel burn sky rocketed to 4.1 GPH for the 8 hrs+ flying that day. That was running 5300 RPM -+, as opposed to my usual 4900 or so, and 3.2 GPH, that last little bit of power really costs, no surprise. I'm glad I stopped in Three Forks for lunch and 5 gallons of mogas, as that was what I ended up with in the tanks when I got home.
