Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Thanks, BRD. I’ll certainly try. I usually take my photos with a Canon 5D Mark II.

Some flying for work, hoping things calm down for the nicer weather so some more float flying stuff can start up

Some very good and very spicy octopus

It’s a interesting culture in china, nearly any time of day someone will have a small radio/boombox playing classical music and these older ladies will start to show up and these small tai chi scenes just form

That scene looks way cleaner than what I see in our larger city’s in the US, is that the norm there?

Cleanish, it was a near shopping area in a big city, so fairly clean, but still had some smells and let’s say if I dropped a grape on the ground I for sure wouldn’t eat it.

Not sure I’d call china clean per say, heck almost everyone smokes everywhere so even the high end hotels kinda smell, the streets don’t have trash in them or anything like that, it’s just a different quasi industrial feel, think if Mexico as a country suddenly hit the lottery lol
Its not clean feeling like say Korea or Japan, nor as friendly and welcoming

It’s a good experience and the food is good, stuff is cheap, but if I was on my own dime and I wanted a Asian vacation, Thailand or Japan by miles

Re: Where did you fly today?

Having been to Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, and a few other spots, all I can say is…it’s interesting. Clean vs scuzzy? Same variety as the US. Bank district in Hong Kong had a cleaner feel in some ways than Kowloon across the bay, which was more industrial. Beijing and Shanghai were huge so everything is pockets. Very nice areas and some not nice ones, seemingly interspersed.

One thing we have on China at least is we don’t use nearly as much coal. Beijing reeked of coal smoke. It was smoggy as hell. I think maybe some city buildings have central coal burners because I could smell it entering my hotel room like the stack was on top of the building.

I’ve heard Singapore has quite clean feel in the cities, and it’s not an accident or phenomenon.

I wonder how the civil aviation climates are in these places?

Thinking of visiting Asia, Terry?

Ha, NO!
Excavation has been slow, spending way too much time trying to understand what’s going on in the world today.
Might be healthier (for the short term) to just take the blindside.
Cheers

Re: Where did you fly today?

On the china thing, quick PIREPs

The great firewall is easily defeated with good a VPN and cellular internet, hotel wifi seems much more locked down

china does not take major credit or debit cards, think it’s part of their whole social credit score tracking people thing, but go to a bank of china and just take local currency out, seems to work best

*though oddly the culture seems to be VERY into digital payments, but will accept their own cash

Best thing for international data is this

https://www.mypokefi.com/

Their local beers are ok, but the local liquors are not very good, food wise they like spicy oil in the food, lots of the high end hotels have a lobby where if you have diamond status they have free food and drink.

Unlike Japan or Korea folks don’t really speak English much or want to help, a good translator app like this is a good call

Re: Where did you fly today?

Hooray!
ZZZ got me fixed up so that I can participate again. I had my password and stuff all boogered up.

I will post some pics again is a bit but for now I will just report that I did my by annual flight review a couple of days ago, the repairs that I did non the plane last fall all worked just fine and we didn't crash into anything.

We flew up the river to check on our moose camp and found it to still be there so things are looking up.

Thanks Zane
