Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Starting to green up here. It happens quick. First couple of photos were from a couple of weeks ago. The next two were from last evening. Both from a local flight to a nearby paved strip (4B7) for some pattern work to keep me honest.

We've had over 10 inches of rain the last three weeks. The big farmer disced in the gullies to make them passable with water still running in the main gully. The farm needs grass waterways.

Took a 1947 Amphib Beaver to visit a 1946 Martin Mars. Both the Hawaii Mars and Philippine Mars (in navy colors) will be flown to their respective museums (BC Aviation Museum, Victoria, and the Pima Museum in Tucson) at the end of August. They did some engine runs while we were there.

That blue International D400 truck with the lift was pretty classic too. That model had a nickname "Donald Duck".

Re: Where did you fly today?

A lot of the ground vehicles there had a vaguely "Mad Max" vibe to them (or maybe that should be "Mad Mars").
Here is the tug.

Awesome, I love the engine tent, what a civilised way to work. Will be a big day when they fly to their respective homes.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Awesome photos as always Brad!!
Not sure how I missed that Boss 302 earlier....it's to die for!! Owned 4 classic Mustangs with a Cobra Jet being the top of the line for me. A Boss 302 or even better yet, a Boss 429 would be my choice after a Shelby.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Late June trip from the Seattle area to the Frank Church. Had to run South to Portland and fly the Columbia Gorge to get across the Cascades - all clear on the East side of course. First night was camping at Memaloose - great camp spot at the end of the runway on the rim of the Snake. Met some friends at Big Creek for the rest of the week. Discovered a broken tailwheel spring bolt after landing at Bruce Meadows from Bernard - assuming it happened departing from Bernard, which was pretty rough - Bruce Meadows was surprisingly smooth. Spent the rest of the day getting hardware and wood blocks from Mike at Cascade and doing some field work. Thankfully my buddy carries a jack from a Geo Metro - relatively light and compact, but a little short. I’ve decided to replace all the tailwheel spring bolts at each annual, and yes, I carry spares in the plane now…. It’s still pretty green in the backcountry, but the only runway mud I encountered was at Memaloose. Last photo is passing Mt Rainier on the way home.

Right seat turbine time in Amazonas on wheels and floats during a recent business trip. Tambaqui is legit, even ate some Paca at a remote village.
