This was a serious education and went through a lot more renditions than I expected. This is Mark 8.
Even after all these renditions (two in plastic, two in metal) I see things I'd do differently on the next one.
It's not an understatement to say I have 100 hours messing with the layout in Solidworks.
When I started this endeavor, I kind of scoffed at the prices some of the pro shops charge to build panels. Now? Their prices are completely fair - specially when you think of ALL the variations folks would like and ALL the types of aircraft and variables out there....

But, we're thru it. I have glove boxes big enough to fit iPads and yes, the piano keys remain.
I couldn't resist a little trial fit photo.

Any chance you’d be willing to share a drawing file?

A couple people have asked me that.
There is a little humor in me detailing how much time and effort I have in something and then being asked to give it away for free.
For several reasons, No.

I didn’t say anything about free. I don’t expect anything for free. When someone puts that kind of effort into something I am always willing to pay them for their efforts.

When I make a turkey sandwich and bring it into the TV room and then my wife asks me if I will "share" it, it is implied that the sandwich is for free.

"Any chance I could buy that panel design" implies one wants to pay for it. LOL

Re: (Yet Another) Cessna 170 project

Quick update. This is three weeks of evenings.
Wiring is one of those things that appear straight forward on the surface yet mind bending when you get into it. The pre-planning needed is incredible. I've got a spreadsheet 200 lines long for each wire plus breakouts for half a dozen plugs and inter connects.

And this is a simple panel.

It's not done yet and some of what you see needs a bit of organizing but I feel good about it so far.

My biggest lesson in all of this is the Pro's charge a fair rate to do this work.

Your time spent is definitely showing. That’s a real nice job, looks cleaner than OEM!

Just wanted to share that THIS happened and nothing blew smoke!
Not 100% done (of course) but I'm really happy that systems so far have checked out.

This photo is a LONG time in the making.
I took possession of my 'low time' motor nearly a year ago. What was supposed to be a quick cleaning turned out to be an epic saga of emotional grief and frustration. But, finally, it's behind me.

Next up, baffles!

Well on the bright side, you have a heck of an engine with a 100% known history!

Happy for you David, glad it's finally on.

When I did my IO-360 conversion, I found I needed to spin the intake assy 180 degreees to fit in a '54 cowling.

Cheers,

I took this photo before trying the cowl for clearance. It didn't clear so they are flipped as well.
Was hoping it would fit as it complicates the rear baffles and oil filler neck :(
