182 Air Vent Replacement

Good Day All,

The Canadian Winter, as beautiful and pristine as it is...is cold!!

Looking for replacement options for the old style "tin can" vent tubes. They leak air and pop out unexpectedly.

Anyone have any experience with any of the replacement options?

Cheers

Re: 182 Air Vent Replacement

I have the precise flow vents in my 1970 182. They are fantastic. No leaks, and great control of the flow in the summer time.

These work great: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/pages/ap/ ... entube.php

And, they are a HELL of a lot cheaper than those Precise Flight thingies.

I put the Precise Flow vent in the 185. They are a HELL of a lot more expensive, but WAY better looking. Just giving you a hard time Mike, we all have different needs. In the end they do the same job, but I suspect the longevity may be better with the Precise Flow.

Re: 182 Air Vent Replacement

2 things I feel every Cessna should have…

BAS shoulder harness
Precise flow air vents.

I had both in my 185

Well, on second thought, make that 3 things, add LED landing and taxi lights.

Re: 182 Air Vent Replacement

If you put these in your plane you are required to wear Van Heusens when you fly and have the appropriate amount of epaulets denoting your standing in the aviation community.

In full disclosure I purchased these to put in the 185 but they didn't clear the v-brace, so I was forced to hang up my Van Heusens, quit flying huge patterns,

and use the Precise-flow Air Vent kit.

Now everywhere I land people come up to my plane and admire my precise airflow, whereas when they see those penis colored prophylactic vent tubes they are first shocked  , then a little embarrassed  , and then try and slip away without drawing too much attention to themselves. :-"

Re: 182 Air Vent Replacement

I've had the Soros Ventubes in my P172D for 9 1/2 years. They aren't nearly as pretty as some others, but they seal well and work just fine, much better than the Cessna stock versions. I don't see any indications of them aging.

I have the complete kit, with the exhaust vents in the bulkhead below the back window and a vent replacing an inspection plate in the empennage. That improves airflow through the airplane in the summer, and actually improves the heater in the winter because of increased flow--although frankly it's not so much that it would be worth lots of bucks. But for only $80 more, it's worth that. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/a ... key=255679

Re: 182 Air Vent Replacement

I just installed the Precise Flow vents in my 170B. Haven't tried them yet but it looks weird to see these blow jobs sticking out! [emoji23]

Looks good! Where did you mount the OAT?

I'll be holding the Scott OAT gauge outside the window with my hand until I figure out a solution that doesn't make me cringe.

Drilling the windscreen is a no go for me.

I might remove one of my venturis and place a little probe under my remaining one.

I'm open to any suggestions for aesthetically pleasing solutions for a vintage airplane!

Re: 182 Air Vent Replacement

I put Precise Flow in my 182, and they are awesome! Not cheap but very well made, and it's amazing being able to actually seal them off or aim the air where I want it.

I went to digital OAT with my gauges so I stuck the probe just inside the left wing vent, it's an easy wire run back to the panel. If you insist on keeping the Cessna needle gauge you'll have to put a hole someplace, most people seem to end up sticking it through the windscreen in a visible but unobtrusive place.

Re: 182 Air Vent Replacement

Great idea on the smaller probe for the digital one inside the wing vent. I like that idea.

Re: 182 Air Vent Replacement

I mounted the probe in the lower forward section of the wing fillet in my 182. Very easy place to get to, and has worked great for many years.
The Precise Flight vents are pricey, however they mount right there in plain view, and easy reach where you will enjoy them every time you fly. I can't imagine NOT having them.
