(EBO) Experimental Bush Options is what you need.
What would be the process to convert a certified bird to Experimental category? Now that would be ideal.

That is so cool! Truth be told that I think I was a bit of a snob... but I gotta say... Im really starting to dig these early 182s.
These are such great (and relatively inexpensive) platforms for killer BCP machines... So great to have a good base building here. I hope you share tons of pics on your journey in making it yours!
Congrats!

Congrats on your purchase, it is one beautiful plane. One of the great benefits is that it has the tall gear compared to later models.

I have to admit, despite pouring my savings (and income) into this Bearhawk, part of me wishes I'd built a fat tired Pponked 182. But that's just too rational. I like the hard road.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
3500 TT and 120 SMOH. Plane was pretty much restored back in 06-08 with all new paint and interior . when I went to look it was better than expected, and man it climbs well. Has the Horton STOL. First mod will be the extended baggage / fireball battery. Best part is it was right her under my nose only a few hour drive away. My favorite part is the updated panel

I haven't spent much time around these planes and I was so surprised how tall it is. I bet the top of the tail is 10' in the air!

According to "N" number -Serial number is 33701 yes a 1956 airframe. Nose strut is 1957 or later (shorter than 56 model) not sure about mains. I think this is 182 from Van Nuys ,CA. is a consortium of several aircraft -Does it have Fiberglass Fuel Tanks ?

congrats. Straight tail 182's are one of the best deals going, best bang for your buck. But I have a 57 straight tail so what did you expect me to say. Welcome to the club! Wish my panel was as nice as yours.

Congrats!! Cool to have an HSI and the 430. I would love that combo to get an instrument rating.
I did the firewall battery and 100% regret it. The 182 or at least mine is so dang nose heavy. I have a 7stud 520 case so I do have some extra motor weight. If I were to do it again I would replace the old battery cable with new. And install a light weight battery in the original box. If you fly solo or with two people you will will be pretty far fwd cg. The big reason for me doing the change was to have the flat floor extended baggage. Now I see that even with a baggage that is above the battery box I would have no problem getting all my sleeping bags and survival gear in the baggage. In the end I installed a 38lb lead weight under the horizontal and it flys amazingly better. My 2c
