Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

1958 Cessna 175 Baggage Door STC

Hi Folks,

Can anyone verify which baggage door AND frame will fit a Cessna 175 without manufacturing channels? My understanding is a 170B, 172, 175, 180 or 182 prior to omnivision will fit my 175. Can you confirm?

Thanks

170B never came with a baggage door from Cessna.

I'm installing a 172N baggage door and frame in my '55 170B. Should be similar? I assume you have battery box and door to deal with.

Chris at Del-Air is your go to for STC and info.

Being a '53 Wagon owner, no baggage door, I have never found myself wishing I had a baggage door. Is it really worth it for the expense and hassle to have a baggage door?

I have a baggage door on my 170B and its gold, well worth the effort and money in my humble opinion.

The STC should specify or at least give guidance, if my memory serves me. I did one in about 1998, and remember it came off a 172 of approximately the same vintage as the 175 it went on. Was a very easy job and a welcomed addition to the airplane....he had me install an O-470 at the same time, as well as do a bunch of repair to the lower cabin area from about the struts forward. Those airplanes have a tendency to have a cracking issue with the engine mount to airframe lugs. Always a good thing to closely check.

Airglas extended baggage + the hat shelf in place makes you realize the value of a baggage door retrofit.

I'd go further and say that with the interior configuration a baggage door is essential unless you are a closet contortionist. My back hurts just thinking about it, ouch.

Steve's Aircraft took one from a donor 175 & installed on a 170 last year, he'd likely know the scoop on that.

I also own a 53 180 with no baggage door.
I don't think accessing just the standard baggage area would be an issue,
at least with folding rear seats--
I'm short but can still reach in & get at things.
But getting anything out of my extended baggage involves crawling back in the airplane.
A baggage door would make most of that crawling unnecessary.
Eventually I'll probably bite the bullet & install one.

With the extended baggage it is nearly impossible to climb over the back seat and reach stuff in the back. :D

I guess one reason it doesn't matter to me is that I have Atley Dodge jump seats, and they are rarely installed, so the whole thing is wide open.

Took the door out of a 175 fuselage... used that same fuselage to replace a main gear casting on a 182 and replace the main fuselage bulkhead that the wing struts attach on a different 182... it’s amazing how many parts in the Cessna family in those early years are the same part numbers..
