24V system - Ipad ?'s

So My Dad told me the only stupid question is the one I don't ask!
I should know the answer, But I don't??
I have a 24 V system in a couple of aircraft, 1 has a 12 plug for power.
The other one does not. What do I need to do to plug in my Ipad and Status?
Are they like a Garmin and take anything from 6 - 30 volts through the power adapter or will I let all the smoke out if I do that?
Thanks in advance

There is no universal answer, you will need to look at your cigarette lighter to usb adapter and see what it requires for input voltage. The good news is if the one you have doesn't work you should be able to find one pretty easily. The ipad itself will use the 5vdc (USB standard) from the adapter.

Re: 24V system - Ipad ?'s

This one from Sporty's will charge both of them at the same time (you supply the cables) and can be plugged into either a 12v or 24v receptacle. http://www.sportys.com/pilotshop/ipad-i ... arger.html

The output is the standard 5v output that almost all electronic devices require. I use this particular charger in my airplane (which has a 12v system), and it works fine--keeps both of them fully charged and will charge them fairly rapidly while in use if they're not fully charged at start up. Although there are many other sources of such adapters, many only put out 1 amp. That's adequate to charge both the iPad and the Stratus if they're turned off, but you'll need one which puts out 2 amps or better, if you expect them to charge while in use.

If you don't already have a cigar-lighter type of receptacle in your 24v airplane, then that would have to be added.

I would be skeptical of adapters that are only rated to 24v. I hade one of those until it fried itself due to the system running at 28v. Better to spend the time and find one rated to 30v to be sure.

Another quick thought...some of these adapters output 5v @ .5amp which will charge a phone but not an iPad...check and verify it puts out the ipads 2.1 amps
