I'm still hung up on torque plates, being that the fourth set that I thought would work happen to be McCauley parts and are just slightly mismatched in the caliper pin alignment. The next step is to buy the torque plates from AA but so far I haven't felt a $400 plus shipping need for big tires.
Sorry -- My last post wasn't directed at you specifically. It was really just an FYI for anyone else running the same wheels as I (re: part number above) that may have the same problem as we both do. Spacers are all it took for my application fwiw.

Did you ever find any guidance about what would be a minimum acceptable pin engagement?

Just to follow up for the archives, I ordered the ABI torque plates.

It all works good.

I need some advice from you guys......
So I recently got a field approval to run 26" Goodyears on my 182. I'm running 40-75T Cleveland 6 bolts wheels with 30-52N brakes. If I had to guess I have about 1/8" at minimum and 1/2" at max of existing clearance. See pic below. The existing clearance makes me very nervous although with higher pressures it doesn't rub, even under load and\or compression. Nonetheless, I want a little more clearance. I spoke to Gabe at Alaska Airframes today and for $220 I can get a set of spacers which includes (2) 1/8" spacers for each wheel along with longer bolts. That gives me either an eighth or a quarter inch depending on if I run one or both spacers per wheel. If I run both I assume I'll need to new offset torque plates because of the pin length. New torque plates run $249 each. So, all in I'm dropping $750 for the added 1/4" of clearance.
My question is this; how much clearance is enough?

One spacer per side is enough. Been there, done that.

Can you buy longer pins for your existing torque plates?

I don't know but if it would solve the problem and make financial sense, I definitely will. Gonna start with the spacers and see where that gets me.

When I first put the 29 in Bushwheels on, the close fit to the tire was the first thing I noticed----and kind of worried about. My brake linings were about half worn and I have never had any rubbing. New brake linings might be a problem but have wondered about grinding new down to half and leave things the way they are.

You might try assembling & flying,
then checking for rub marks--
.001" clearance is enough if it never actually touches.
