26" Goodyear STC

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Re: 26" Goodyear STC

I have had my FBO owner ask the local FSDO about putting the Goodyear 26" tires on my C180C and his answer both times was, 6 bolt wheels. Even with MTNWEST's 337 from Colorado less than a year ago showing 3 bolt wheels.

I can see the attraction for running tubeless if possible- no ripping the valve stem out if/when the tire spins on the wheel. But I'm curious why you would run 700 tubes with an 850 tire?

Cause they are much lighter and way cheaper than 8.50 tubes, especially when you have a set of one and not the other.

I love EAB!

Are Matco wheels already tapped for a tubeless valve, or do you make that modification yourself?

You know, I don't know, that is a good question. Call George and ask him. The dude is a rock star in my book!

Re: 26" Goodyear STC

Hey everyone,

I'm resurrecting this thread because it is close on subject matter for my question. I'm looking at doing a field approval for 26" Goodyear blimp tires for my 205. I currently have a friend that is running them without approval, so I know it works. 29" are allowed via a few STCs and brake and wheel changes. But I'd like to get the 26" approved to avoid having the do those changes.

So my question is, what wheel is approved for the 26" Goodyear blimp tire? I've been doing some digging but not finding a list of wheels that are approved.

Thanks!

Thanks Phil. I’m seeing there are a few FA on here in another thread but some links aren’t working. You by chance have a digital copy you could send me do you?

Re: 26" Goodyear STC

I assume the Field approval paperwork would be similar for the lighter Cessna 172. If anyone has this paperwork I would love to have it so I can get them installed on my 172. [email protected]

Re: 26" Goodyear STC

I was doing some searching and figured I'd update this thread with new(ish) information which was not obvious or easy to find details of. Seaplanes North has an STC for this now, and the AML is extensive. Cost is $475USD which seems pretty reasonable for Canada where field approvals aren't an option. Cheaper than a MOGAS STC...

In summary it approves 8.50-6 tires on basically everything and if the aircraft has 8.50-6 on the type certificate it approved 26x1050-6 tires.

172, 182, 205, 206, 207 equipped with an Airglas fork can run 26's on the mains with an 8.50-6 on the nose.

The continued airworthiness specifies a brake test procedure. Pretty straight forward.

Does AC 43.13-2C cover up to 26” tires if 8.50-6 is in TC? Might be a free upgrade.
Worth a look.

I downloaded it...wow. Chapter 14 is completely about getting larger tire installations approved. Amazing. Why hasn't this been more talked about?

The way I read it, an A&P or IA can install bigger tires if he jumps through the described hoops,
AND the mounted tire is no more than 130% the diameter of the standard approved tire(s).
For example, the C180 is factory-approved for 800x6 tires,
so as long as the fatties aren't more than 30% larger, it should be good to go.
Logbook entries, w&b revisions, ICA's, etc as required, of course.

Re: 26" Goodyear STC

Re AC43.13-2C-- it talks about what can be approved in the way of bigger tires,
but I read through it and I don't think it addressed how to document installation.
Does an IA need to do a 337 that he can sign off for return to service himself,
kind of like for an STC, or is it just a logbook entry?
