Just because it's fun doesn't mean it's the smartest thing to do where this was done. It's my freedoms of flight I'm interested in keeping. I've left tracks and put my mark in places for fun, only started flying in '77 so I know I'm not as knowledgeable as most of the seasoned veterans.
If I see someone doing something that has potential to threaten my safety, or liberty in this case, I'm going to say something.

Not to mention the right (or wrong) people see this stunt and work towards getting a new non Class G airspace designated over the lake. Then so much for others wanting to go sightseeing around the lake.

Nothing wrong here. Airplane speed not as fast as some boats.
Airplane not as loud as some boats, or semi trucks using exhaust brakes.
I know Kevin wasn't peeing in the water like a lot of water skiers, wake boarders, and kids by the beach.
It is a completely legal form of personal enjoyment.
I have a much bigger problem with bike riders, and I ride a bike on the street.
As far as environmental impact, I can think of lots of things going on around Tahoe that are way worse. The airplane is super low impact.
But never underestimate the stupidity of people in large numbers. I'm sure the no fun police are working over time on this.
Cheers...Rob

I agree with all those points Rob. The issue I see isn't reality, but public perception. Using a national treasure beloved by millions as the proving ground for a form of aviation little understood by aviators, much less the public, strikes me as having the potential for a lot of blowback.
The doing of the thing doesn't bother me a bit. It's the idea that a video will get viewed a hundred-thousand times by Joe Sixpack and Jill Shoppingmall that strikes me as irresponsible. From Kevin's post that seems to be a goal of his. Aside from ego stroking, I can't see a single positive outcome of publicizing this event. Maybe I'm wrong. There's got to be a first time after all... (imagine funny emotocon)

I'm pretty new here but it seems like a place where disagreements are typically phrased much more politely.
