Re: 3rd Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

Doug, that is a good looking plane. Looking forward to checking it out at the fly-in.

Yesterday we had a work party at Red Hills. We removed the tree that was encroaching on the approach end of Rwy 25 plus another nearby. The approach is really opened up. The runway is in excellent condition and the Moyle's are excited and looking forward to us coming to the fly-in.

Rich took some pictures and will update the Safety Video without the tree there.

I have some balloons for the bombing contest and we will get some flour or white chalk powder for the target outline and spot landing line.
Does anyone have any ideas or donations for prizes for the contests?

Look forward to seeing new and old attendees at the fly-in,

Hawk

Hawk,
Great work on the trees and clean up!
Please let us know when you go back for the other tree and I will try and make it.

On a side note If someone (Svanarts) brings a powered parachute I would love to see it, but would it have it's own spot landing category?

Here is a short look at the Red Hills Rwy 25 approach before and after the work party.

I'll definitely have the PPG there. Hopefully the wind cooperates.

Re: 3rd Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

BlackWater, We can talk about the last tree at the fly-in. We need a bigger chain saw and a sharpener. Forgot to bring the sharpener the first time. The dead bull pine are a lot harder than dried oak or madrone. We had three saws and all went dull after the first two trees.

We have the chalk powder and the balloons for the balloon bombing contest and the spot landing contest. Do you have any suggestions for any thing else? I haven't decided what to bring yet for the pot luck but I'll work on that. Any suggestions for any thing else interesting to do or bring?

The one thing that hasn't been mentioned to bring this year is some cash for the porta-potty rental.
Svanarts has been the one to go through the headache of getting one delivered and picked up and I will be making sure I bring several denominations of cash so I can contribute appropriately and he dose not have any out of pocket in addition to the headaches.

Re: 3rd Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

BlackWater, While conducting the work party there was a porta poty there. Jack said that he had obtained one for the month. That way it would be there for the fly-in as well. We lightly brought up the subject of re-payment and he became offended. Myrna also chimed in and they both said that they would cover the cost and would not accept any money for the rental. They were both very strong on this point.

I think the best thing we could do is give them some sort of gift that would show our appreciation for using their place and providing the amenities. Do you or any one else have any ideas on this idea?

The outhouse has been there since the Easter party. Yeah, I tried to strongarm them into take some money for it and they wouldn't hear of it. Hawk has a great idea. Let's think of something we can get them. Year supply of cookies? We can definitely bring some pancake mix and maple syrup for Sunday morning.

It is looking like we have a decent turnout for this years Red Hills Fly-In. As always it will be a good time with others who share our addiction, good food, great host & hostess, a variety of airplanes, excellent camping and just a lot of fun.

If you are in the Columbia (O22) area during the weekend, drop in to say hello or stay for the weekend. You won't be sorry. You can demonstrate your skills with a spot landing contest and a water balloon bombing contest.

The airstrip is in great condition (IMHO) and we have removed the trees at the approach end of Rwy 25.

Remember that the Pilot in Command assumes the risk of landing and must sign the liability waiver required by the landowner.

The LIABILITY WAIVER can be signed on line at the following:

https://goo.gl/HgZsXO

There is an informational safety briefing video on line at the following:

http://youtu.be/G2TZk6qtHLg

The landing zone depicted in this video is not an airport! It is not maintained with aircraft operations in mind. Pilots using this landing zone do so at their own risk with the understanding of potential damage to their aircraft and harm to their health!

Re: 3rd Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

For any one interested, A couple of us will be flying in Fri. afternoon/evening to have a relaxing night at Red Hills. We will be flying out to meet for breakfast at the Lodi airport (1O3) (The Lodi Cafe) 8:30 or 9:00am. This is for any one who would like to meet there before flying in to Red Hills. Or just to have breakfast and shoot the bull for awhile.

Hawk,
Julie and I will try and see you at Lodi.
Last year we couldn't get out of Santa Roas until after 10 due to the low coastal ceiling.
I have a number for Rich that ends in 1409 I will plan on texting him with our ETA Saturday AM.
We are sure looking forward to seeing the regulars and meeting new folks!

Re: 3rd Annual Red Hills Fly-In - Memorial Day Weekend

Scott,
Rich, Chris and I will be there Fri night. There will be no problem getting a ride with one of us to Lodi for breakfast.

We were also thinking that if several of the attendees would chip in a few dollars each, we would purchase some tickets to a play in either Sonora or Columbia for the Moyle's. This could be a thank you for their hospitality for the fly-ins. Rich talked to their son, Lee, he said that is a treat that they really enjoy.

Any other suggestions or ideas for the Fly-in?

Can't think of anything. Just looking forward to relaxing and doing not much of anything.

Since I'm driving up does anyone want me to pick anything up?

I was looking forward to dropping in and seeing some of you again, and meeting some more great folks...but it does not look like the Champ is going to cooperate. Have a great weekend! I will try again next year!

The Concord contingency is packed and ready to go. We will be spending Friday night at Red Hills and sooo looking forward to a great weekend.

The only problem is that Sadie can't decide which plane to ride in.

See you all at Red Hills.
