Wow. Buy two and send one my way.

One of those Ryobi gennis would be perfect for my pickup camper. I’d rather have a gas powered one for the plane so I can use gas out of the plane if I had to.
I could send one down if you want Jon.

Pretty slick you can use the little green propane cans, or the nogger tanks. I bought a portable beater that does that, us it has a fan that can run on 115V or on d-cell batteries.

Re: 800 watt 19 lb. generator

I like this propane idea, if for no other reason than it means not having a gasoline-filled machine venting out in the back of the plane all day. It does require a little planning ahead though, and runtime on those little bottles is going to be pitiful at max load (which you may be doing with preheaters). Still, a few bucks in propane is probably enough to get the engine warm before flight, and that's not such a terrible thing.

I dunno. I just can't get excited about little propane bottles. They seem kinda short on burn time, and while not hard to refill from a standard 5-gallon or larger, it can be inconvenient.

I'd rather burn some fuel. The little Dirty Hands Tools generator above has a fuel vent closure, btw. You only need to vent it when it's running to prevent low pressure in the fuel tank.

Any chance of that vent closure causing problems as you climb and descend thousands of feet? That can be a decent pressure differential. Obviously if people are doing it then it can't be all bad I suppose.

And I agree, having to manage a pile of those little bottles to get longer runtime is not exciting. But fuel is a finite quantity too and can be just as much of a pain to handle.

I agree. However, that little Ryobi would be awesome for my truck camper for those cloudy winter days when the solar panels can’t keep up with demand. I have a generator compartment with a propane hookup.

Have you used your little generator much Z? Does it really only weigh 19lbs?

Re: 800 watt 19 lb. generator

What I would really like to learn about is a light weight generator that can run on 100LL and has just enough output to take care of my EZ Heat oil sump pre heater.

Or, perhaps how to convert one of the gas machines out their so that they can run 100LL.

Anyone out there know of one or care to share how to convert?

Re: 800 watt 19 lb. generator

Didnt get a chance to try a generator. Got back from holidays and everywhere is sold out. The propane would work ok at any temps I'd like to be out flying, but around -35C it doesn't work very good. Had to use a tiger torch lots when hauling water to freeze in access, and lots of time was spent heating the bottle with the torch, pretty much half and half when its -35 or lower...

Re: 800 watt 19 lb. generator

Just for info purposes I weighed my new Yamaha 1000 generator; it came in at 32 lbs. Of course I looked at them on sale at 700.00$ but waited till regular priced at 1200.00$ to buy. I have also a Yamaha 3000 , they have both been excellent. Just a thought ; after I got home I ran them for a tank of gas. Then changed oil and became familiar with them.
