North of Yerington, over Shurz and the Rawhide Mine, north of Gabbs and then a straight shot to Smith Creek Dry Lake and before you know it you'll have Austin International filling the windshield.

Coyote Ugly wrote:You can call Fallon Desert on 126.2 and get flight following from trainee controllers. About half the time you can get cleared direct to Austin through all Restricted areas. Otherwise they will tell you to use the VFR corridor. That corridor starts at Sand Mountain, on Highway 50 on the West side of 4816 and ya just follow highway 50 about 1/2 mile North of highway 50 at about 7,500' until you clear the Restricted Areas. You don't have to be on frequency to do that, but it doesn't hurt. After clearing the restricted areas, I just ask for frequency change and head direct to Austin. The MOAs are just advisory, just keep an eye out. No communication is mandatory, or monitor 126.2 if ya want... The restricted Areas are manditory tho. Avoid or get clearance through them.

GumpAir wrote:Just a heads up. There are two fire TFRs in place right now west of Austin. By Smith Creek and Middlegate. The route south of all the R airspace still works with just a slight bend further south between Gabbs and Smith Creek.
