"AccuWeather.com meteorologists believe that this system could become one of the most intense storms to move over the Bering Sea. The central pressure of this system is forecast to drop below 930 millibars on Friday night. To put this in perspective, the lowest pressure recorded in Hurricane Sandy was 940 millibars. If the pressure of this storm does drop this low, it will be in contention for becoming one of the most powerful storms to ever develop over the Bering Sea in recorded history in terms of central pressure. The current record stands at 925 millibars from a powerful storm that moved over the Bering Sea on Oct. 25, 1977."

Plus I heard it's gonna make it cold as frozen over hell in the lower 48.

Yeah, those things generally spool up this time of year. In 1977, I lived in Cold Bay, AK, and one of these Bering Sea storms spun up and came ashore....with 102 knot sustained winds.

The good news is, these storms give the Black Brant who have been feeding in Izembek Lagoon for the last couple months, in preparation for their coming non-stop flight to Baja San Quintin. These big storms give the geese the push they need to make that flight.

When the big storm hit, we watched the geese testing the winds, on the back side of the storm, then right after dark, ~ 200,000 Black Brant took off from the Lagoon, and headed south. We watched them head out for the first hundred miles or so on the USAF long range radar there, and a few days later, we'd get the call from our counterparts in the Baja, letting us know they'd arrived.

So true.

But you know, stocking up for a disaster/survival situation seems like a lot of unnecessary work to me. I just want to know who the vegans and vegetarians are - in that order. Yum, grass fed beef. :D

Waiting for Nuri...

Well not really.

The location of this one means it is warm out. If the wind comes from the south at 40 it might kill off all our ice. Then the float guys can have some November fun before things refreeze.

I love Fall, but winter is less and less appealing as I get older. This forecast may very well remind me of why.
